AT&T Windows Phone Mango Update Program Starting September 27th

Up until now, the only official news we had regarding Mango updates was from Microsoft, who said the Windows Phone 7.5 update would begin rolling out in the next one to two weeks. The missing cog in the wheel was how carriers were going to handle the delivery of the update. Good news comes from WPCentral, who secured a series of emails confirming plans to rollout Mango to existing devices on September 27th, 2011. The update is initially planned for the following devices:

  • HTC Surround
  • LG Quantum
  • Samsung Focus (revision 1.3)

The HTC HD7S is slated for an early to mid-October release. If you happen to be a Samsung Focus owner with revision 1.4, your update won’t hit until late October at the earliest. The update has yet to hit the AT&T SPE lab and Samsung is targeting October 17th, hoping for an October 31st public release. Ouch! To find out what version you have, simply do a battery pull and you should see REV1.3 or REV1.4 depending upon which model you own.

It’s a mixed bag, depending on what device and hardware revision. It’s certainly not the end of the world, but the fact that some owners could be waiting a month or more after the release is just not good.
