WP7 Pre-NoDo Patch Rolling Out Again to Samsung Phones

Michael Stro released an update on Wednesday March 2, 2011 over at the Windows Phone Blog that the Pre-NoDo update is rolling out again for Samsung phones. He clarifies that the software patch is still a “roll out” so not everyone will receive the update at once. He also states they are continuing to push the update to other devices.

UPDATE—Wed. Mar. 2

Starting today, we plan to resume rolling out the February update to Samsung phones. Meanwhile, we’re continuing to dispatch the update to other Windows Phone models. As has been the case, the software patch is being sent out on a rolling schedule. You’ll see a message on your phone when it’s available.

During the past week the engineering team has pinpointed and fixed problems that were preventing a small percentage of Windows Phones from installing the February software patch.  We apologize again for the delay and continue looking for ways to improve the update process.

This has definitely been a long waiting game and updates need to happen quicker if Microsoft wants to stay in the game. That’s for sure.

Although Microsoft should have done a better job of testing the update, Samsung phones had quite the assortment of firmware versions which didn’t help the situation and as such, I place as much blame on them as I do Microsoft. That being said, I’ve never bought into the notion that iPhone or Android are inherently better or Windows Phone 7 is somehow destined for failure.

I continue to be pleased with my Windows Phone while at the same time, I recognize that just like the iPhone had (and continues to have), it’s quirks and glitches, this is the very nature of ALL new Operating Systems… The first 2-3 patches seem to clean things up and produce a more stable product. To those who seem to relish seeing Microsoft stumble I say, crawl back into your Mac-centric world and try to recognize that just because the iPhone is the best choice for YOU, doesn’t necessarily make the Windows Phone and bad choice for the rest of us… What kind of world would it be if there was only one kind or car to buy, or one brand of jeans or… well, you get the picture.

I wish there were more patches, rather than waiting for big updates. I’d assume that more can go wrong when you release a larger update. In any event, this release today is good news. It should mean they continue to be on track for the early-March NoDo release.

I had to reset my Focus in order to update. I tried it like three time when the first update came around and another three times with the second release.

    All is well now!!
