Windows Phone 7 Automatically Turns Off Data When Roaming

Paul Thurrott of Windows Phone Secrets took his pre-release WP7 device with him on a trip to Germany, and found a pretty cool little automatic trick the OS has. See that little triangle at the very top of the screenshot above? That’s the icon that pops up when you’re roaming. And when that happens, the phone automatically turns off data. That’s right, you won’t accidentally get slapped by mammoth data charges while in another country, which tend to be extremely high.

You’re more than welcome to turn data back on, by going All Programs, Settings, Cellular, and then switching Data Roaming Options from Don’t Roam to Roam.

It’s a handy little trick, and one your wallet will thank you for.

    Sheer brilliance!

I’m amazed no one else has thought of this before!

It’s these little thoughtful touches that makes me want to switch to WP7 in October!
