Skype Beta Ends – Full Version Now Available On Windows Phone Marketplace

The promised full version April release of Skype on Windows Phone has been fulfilled. The official Skype for Windows Phone application is now available on the Windows Phone Marketplace as version 1.0.0.0, a final download size of 6 MB, 15 supported languages, and all for the great price of absolutely FREE. The list of features are listed below.

  • Portrait mode video calling
  • Support in 18 languages
  • Add new contacts (Skype and phone contacts)
  • Support for participating on audio conference calls
  • Call-in-progress notification
  • Ability to mark all messages as read
  • Block/unblock/view blocked contacts

We noticed the Skype device support information reads it requires 512 MB RAM. That means Windows Phone Tango devices already available, and soon to release, will not be able to run this application due to the 256 MB RAM cap. The Skype team has responded by noting that for an appropriate experience 512 MB RAM is necessary, and did not comment on support for Windows Phone Tango devices. The Windows Phone world is still expecting full Skype integration to come with Windows Phone 8 Apollo later this year. Hopefully the integration later this year will give WP Tango devices some Skype love.
