There’s a rumor that not only will we see a WP7 update in January (bringing at the very least copy paste), but another one might be announced at the Mobile World Congress in February. According to unnamed sources, Ballmer will make a keynote at the event, and it will mark the one year since Microsoft first announced WP7 to unsuspecting world.
What will the update bring?
“Microsoft’s second update will introduce enhanced developer controls for applications. Microsoft is expected to open up several new APIs that will allow for greater multi-tasking, in-app downloads and better customization for end users…Microsoft is also set to unveil its plans for a Silverlight update to Windows Phone 7 [and] a major overhaul of the Windows Phone 7 browser.”
All told, it looks like an update that will be aimed more at developers than users, but it could have some major impact on apps.
