OpenFeint Heads To Windows Phone 7

OpenFeint, the immensely popular gaming platform across iOS and Android has brought a third smartphone OS into their fold — Windows Phone 7 support is now in the works. The OpenFeint Connect API will now work on all three platforms (plus a couple more), and is the first step in allowing multiplayer experiences between the different OSs as games developed for one platform using the API will work on the others. The new API brings:

  • Leaderboards & achievements: Great for encouraging cross platform social competition.
  • Developer announcements: Talk directly with your players to keep them engaged and up-to-date on the latest developments.
  • OpenFeint accounts: Perfect for players who want to play games on multiple devices, whether an iPad or a Palm Pre 3.
  • OpenFeint friends: Make it easier for your players to find new friends, regardless of whether they’re Windows Phone 7 or Android fans.

This is just a private beta right now, but I’m hoping this will allow more apps to head to WP7, and bring better asynchronous gameplay between platforms.
