WPDownUnder had predicted such a day would come, where the Nokia Lumia 610 Windows Phone would have to be priced at about $200 and be available at mass-market retail stores. The BIG W is one of those mass-market retail stores, and thus now has the Lumia 610 available through a Boost Mobile bundle. The bundle seems to only be available until July 25th.
Here are the features of the same Lumia 610 available from BIG W:
- Quad band WCDMA, quad band GSM/EDGE
- HSDPA cat 7: 7.2Mbps
- 3.7″ WVGA (800×480) LCD display
- Windows Phone 7.5
- 256 MB RAM
- 8 GB internal storage
- 5 MP auto-focus, LED flash, 720p video @ 30 fps rear camera
- 800 MHz Single Core / Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 processor
- Internet sharing/tethering out-of-the-box
Internet sharing and tethering is already on board this Lumia 610 device, despite Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 users in Australia still waiting for that feature through an update.
The Lumia 610 is offered through a Boost Mobile bundle on BIG W, and includes a Boost Mobile pre-paid deal as a $40 Boost Mobile credit/SIM. That credit/SIM is what places the actual price of the handset at only $189. The offer seems to also be locked to the Optus network which is used by Boost Mobile. Therefore, it is assumed that if you are on another network you may need a new SIM, and additional charges may apply.
This is definitely a great deal for anyone interested in a Lumia 610 through Optus/Boost Mobile in Australia.
