Microsoft To Deliver Next Gen Windows Phones on October 6th

Microsoft has announced that the next generation of Windows phones (Editor’s note: No longer called Windows Mobile phones) on October 6th. This will usher in the first phones that feature Windows Mobile 6.5 offering a host of improvements including Windows Marketplace and Microsoft My Phone.

In the US, Microsoft states that all major carriers are committed to updating or expanding their portfolios to include new 6.5 Windows phones. To date, no phones have been announced that will include 6.5, so it’s likely we’ll see some sort of announcement this month.

So, what manufacturer and carrier will be first to deliver 6.5? Thoughts? Hopes? Let us know in the comments or in our Windows phone forums. In the meantime, we’ll try and breaks ourselves of the habit of calling them Windows Mobile devices. This coming after we finally got comfortable with Standard and Professional.
