Microsoft Says 2 Million WP7 Phones Shipped, No Word On Sales

Confirming what we already expected, Microsoft has confirmed that 2 million WP7 handsets shipped out last quarter. Microsoft refused to give actual sales numbers, instead citing an incredibly high level of customer satisfaction.

“One of the key ways that we’ll measure success of Windows Phone is did we ship a phone people love,” [Microsoft Senior Product Manager Greg Sullivan] said, pointing to its customer-satisfaction data, which said that 93 percent of early customers are “satisfied” or “very satisfied,” adding, “That’s a really great number.”

AT&T likewise refused to give sales numbers, instead saying that sales have been steadily growing since launch.

The longer Microsoft holds out on giving these numbers, the worse the rumor mill gets. This is three months after launch, and they’re happy to say how many units shipped to sellers, but not how many are in real people’s hands.
