    non data IM?

well i was thinking today and it came to my attention that my old-school samsung u-340 had an IM client that did not require data, just used text messaging. so i looked and looked around these forums and other places for a program that may do the trick... turns out i couldnt find one so if anyone knows of one you should let me know cuz im sure im not the only one looking for it.

Verizon's website says they have Mobile IM for the Q9m which uses text message... but needed data to download the app.

Here are the instructions from their site:
To use Mobile IM you must first download VZAppZone to your device.

    For the Motorola Q™
    • Enter the following URL on your device: http://ota.getvzappzone.com
    • Follow the download instructions to install VZAppZone on your device.
    • Download will begin.
    • Once download is completed, follow the instructions to download Mobile IM.
Mobile IM – For the Motorola Q™
    • Access VZAppZone.
    • Select Get Applications.
    • Select Personal Applications Catalog.
    • Select Mobile IM.
    • Click the button Get It.
    • When the install application prompt appears press the soft key "Yes".
    • Download will begin.

yeah I didn't either. I knew they had released one the BlackBerries a few months ago, so figured it was worth looking to see for smartphones.

To the above: let us know how it works out.

i'm pretty sure aim will do that for you without a program. you just have to configure it through the pc aim app. i did this with my last phone, it just sends texts to you
