Fix for crashing problem: Opera Mobile 8.65 Beta 2

I don't know if others have had a lot of trouble with Opera mobile 8.65 b2 crashing when it loads big pages, but basically for me if a page had more than about 350 kb of data and image intensive, Opera would lock up the phone requiring battery removal.

I found that changing the value "Set File Writer Thread Priority=1" to "Set File Writer Thread Priority=0" makes all the difference.

I also moved my cache to my storage card, but this doesn't make a difference to me for stability

HTH and I haven't had a crash yet since I made the change and this had been intensely used hitting a lot of intensive pages.

    Cache on Storage Card

I followed the instructions on the link. I have tried websites that I had problems with previously, and no crashes so far. This is fantastic.

I have had a problem getting the cache moved to the storage card. Per my understanding of the instructions, I added the following line in the [Disk Cache] section of the ini file:

    Cache Folder4=\Storage Card\Application Data\Opera\cache4

I added a new folder, Opera, in the Application folder on the storage card. I copied the cache4 folder from the Device to the storage card. I left the original folder on the device while I checked the changes. The program continued store the cache on the device. When I tried to clear the cache, it cleared the folder on the device, not the storage card.

Could you let me know what you did to the ini file to get the cache to be moved to the storage card? Note: I have loaded Opera onto the storage card. I wonder if that makes a difference.

    Hmmm,

I just checked and my Cache is not changed to the storage card either.

I'll need to look into this and see if there is a mistake.

At least I am getting a lot more stability. I can now safely use Opera as my default browser (and I like it a lot better!!!).

    cache on storage card

I found this in my opera forum. It is in the first post on Opera Mobile.

    http://my.opera.com/ResearchWizard/blog/show.dml/457334

This guide has many tricks to modify Opera. I added a line in [User Prefs]:

    Cache Directory4=\Storage Card\Application Data\Opera\cache4

I added an Opera folder in Application Data on the card, and a cache4 folder in the Opera folder. Now the cache is being written to the card. The people in that forum say this may slow down the browser. I have not used it enough to evaluate the effect.

Where do you go to change the Set File Writer Thread Priority=1 to =0

I see the ini file but I can't open it. Do I change it from my computer?

Yes, close opera and copy the file to your PC to edit.

Then transfer back the edited copy.

DON'T forget to make a backup of the original just in case

You can also edit the opera.ini on your Q handset using the freeware WordPad.

    Get it here:
    http://www.vieka.com/wordpad.htm

This is practically useful if you're on the go and needed to edit some file (txt, html, xml and any text based file)

    HTH
