Converting DVDs to play on Q?

I tried the SPB software from Handago to shrink DVDs so that it can fit easily on microSDs. BUT, there's something wrong with the software and the sound doesn't work. I went to their website and it appears that others have the same problem.

Does anyone have any other solution?

First I hope you have TCPMP to play the videos on your Q.
Second there is a great free video converter called PocketDivxEncoder, which converts the movies into AVIs and they look pretty decent, considering that the program is free.

Lastly there are two fantastic commercial converting programs that has outstanding quality output...
*1Click DVDtoIPOD is probably the better of the two in terms of quality output, it converts to MPG4 only though, and you will need the AC3 audio codec plugin for TCPMP in order to get the audio to play in the MPG4s.
*Next... CloneDVDMobile is also great in terms of quality output, but has the ability ot convert to many different video format outputs... MPG4, AVI 3g2, WMV....

Both these programs have free trial periods so you mcan try them out before deciding you want to buy or not.

I use Pocket DVD Studio. I've not tried the two programs that MBK2 recommends, but I am real happy with the output I get with this program. I tried a couple of other ones, and I felt this gave me the best output, flexibility, and easy to use. I really like the WM9 format in Pocket DVD Studio.

Also, you want to select Intel XScale in the video options of TCPMP. That gives you the smoothest playback.

Actually there is another great converting program that uses Xvid codec to convert to AVIs, AutoGK is free and outputs the most crisp video I've seen... unfortunately I have not been able to find the correct buffering, framerate, or any other settings that will get this video output from AutoGK to play smoothly without buffering stalls,,, Perhaps you guys can figure it out.

BTW, GldnBear, why doesn't PocketDVDStudio offer free trials???

I think you can download the program and use it. It will stop the conversion after about 5 minutes unless you register your version. At least that was the way it worked when I tried it.

okay, i must be doing something wrong. I tried the Clone DVD w/AnyDVD software (as it says I need) and I tried pocket dvd studio. i just can't seem to get this working. this is the third program that doesn't produce anything good.

does anyone have any specific instructions or am i just stupid?

DVDFab is by far the best program... put in a DVD and the program does the rest by creating the file to be played on the Q with core player.

Just out of curiousity, how much do these apps. compress say a 700mb .avi file? do they save significant space or is it just for better playback quality on your Q? Thanks in advance.
