    XML for Dummies

I figured since XML is used for building HS's, I would place this here... If it needs moved, mods feel free...

Before I break down and buy a book, i.e. XML for Dummies, does anyone know of any free sites or forums that "teach" how to use XML?

I really want to start making my own HS's and this whole XML thing is blocking my path.

    Any information would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

    -Josh

Honestly, it's probably not worth getting a book for. You can use the tutorials posted here, that is what helped me. I don't know how much more a book would help, besides a headache. LOL.

    Well ...

There are some stickies on this forum towards the top of the page that will help you out with this. They point to some excellent sites. There are a couple of homescreen editors that will help you create homescreens with little or no knowledge of the XML language. One of them is Ruttensoft Homescreen Designer 2007 (Web site: http://www.ruttensoft.com) and the other one is Madbeetle HomeScreenBuilder (Web Site: http://www.madbeetle.com). These are both very good programs and I've used them before to help me get something created and these can be sent right to your phone from within the program. Both programs have a trial period so you can try them out and see if you like them before making the decision to buy them for yourself.

    Hope this helps you out.

Everything IS there where kaylabeers told you to go. Plus download the HS's you like and study the XML's & the screenshot's where the plug-in's are. Start with "simple" one's without Facade, Orange, etc. I "stole/borrowed" docmac's XML code for the messaging plug-ins & give him credit when I use it.
Keep experimenting and plugging away. It will sink in what you have to do & why. I am still waiting for stuff to click but I am getting better and faster where I want things to go.
Save your $$$ for a cool Q program!!

    Nice screen

I like how your first screen turned out. Slightly twisted but very good.

    question....

when I select a HS through Façade settings that does NOT currently use Façade, I get a message asking if I want to put Façade in that HS.

By selecting YES, does Façade auto embed itself into the XML of that HS?

reason I ask is once before I clicked YES and it made my HS have 2 pages.. I wasn't fond of that at all...

Yes, it automatically puts it into your HS. Usually at the top, which pushes everything else down, thereby possibly making it 2 pages.:gasp:

    thanks Doc!

so then theoretically I could say YES, then extract that XML, edit it to fit info on 1 page, then put it back?
