I have a Satellite and I upgraded from Xp to Vista.

Does he have Toshiaba ConfigFree installed?

Edit: my Toshisba had alot of problems connecting to my home network when I had a Netgear Router. Although I have wireless installed on my laptop already, i had a wirless Netgear card as well. I thought it would give me a better connection. Have you tired another card?

Is the Router broadcasting the SSID? Can ME communicate on anything but B networks? What type of encryption on the router?

No problem. You might need to update his BIOS as well. Any reason he running ME? if you need XP, I can send it to you?? And I pretty sure the wireless drivers from any Toshiba would work on his laptop.

I starting to think Netgear products suck @$$. My laptop constantly disconnected from my network when I had the Netgear Router & Card.

Plus, ME had rather poor network support - it was not much but a gussied-up version of Win95. Moving to XP would likely get rid of any number of problems. And even if the laptop is an early Satellite, you should be able to run XP.
