its free with every membership :)

assuming you do get the upgrade, it will be interesting to see if all this hype is justified

p.s. I'm not a mod, just got too much freetime

Well, that's a separate issue. It will just be nice to have the choice.

So the estimated date for the WM 6.1 is June 2008 right?

yea, this is good news to my eyes :). Last time I talked to a rep, they said it was in the works, but no exact date. Either way, it'll be nice once we get it.

....For now, im happy with my smart toolkit upgrade and smooth web surfing.

The clearest date Sprint has given so far is Summer 2008. So I suppose it could come as late as the end of August, but hopefully it's the beginning of the summer.

In case you people wanted to drool even more, the Windows Mobile Team posted a recording (40 minutes long!) of a presentation of the main 6.1 features, including the new home screen, alarm, threaded text, and more.

Grab some popcorn and a drink and watch it here.

I know the update is not out yet, but i have a few questions so when it does come out I will be informed.

What are the chances that this will mess the phone up and make it a brick?

If it does brick the phone, will the replace it?

Is it best to uninstall all programs, and hacks before upgrading?

    it could brick it sure
then it depends on the carrier
and probably like a mol update it will format the phone

It's premature to answer these questions, as any of the answers would all be completely speculative. We'll have to see as we get closer to the actual release.

well, I know the mogul update from sprint (the last bad one) bricked my buddies phone and they replaced it no problem...However, I bet you get a refurb.

With my original Q, I always did a master reset prior to running the MOL updates (paranoia) and never had issues. But I agree with rest of the posters... its way too early to tell what an update may or may not do. Best to ask Sprint about replacment policy after the update has been made public.

Anything can brick a phone. Good news is they probably will replace it. Bad news is it most likely will be a refurb. I have a problem with this because when selling a device later a refurb does not generate the same amount of money as an OEM device. Sometimes people get lucky and get a new one.

I for one can't wait for the update. Extreme Text does not nearly work like true threaded text like Cody made for touch screen devices. I also own a Mogul.

The Alarm clocks on all Windows phones suck. I use my Sanyo M1 as my alarm clock. It has snooze options and uses MP3 tones. The Windows designers dropped the ball on something as simple as an alarm clock.

    Bring on the update already.
