I'm currently using VZW IM. I don't like that I can't read people's profiles and away messages though. I wanted to use the Beta AIM but that programs KILLS my Ram...

which version of the beta did you use? the first was quite slow, but the last (2 I think) versions have sped up quite a bit.

Is there a link to DL the AOL IM? I saw the story on the front page but there was no link to DL on the AOL page.

Edit: Nevermind, my adblocker was hiding the getting started button. Wow this thing runs slow.

I use jivetalk. Works great. Uses about 2mb of ram. I let it run for an entire day in the background was still at three bars after 24 hours.

I had used Octro for the reason of IM being saved in Gmail.
The Fring came along. I liked the Voip feature especially being able to chat via phone with my GTalk buddies.

Reading this thread I decided to give Slick a shot.

But the file that I downloaded throws me a 'not made for this system..error'.

Can someone point/link me to the correct cab file to get slick up and running for a 'kick the tyres'??

    Update:

Got it from here: Slick for WM6

how is it only using 2 mbs of ram??? mine clearly uses around 9-10 mbs of ram... and eats battery like its going out of style... in 30 minutes of use, i'll go through about 7-10% of battery. ON IDLE!

are you using the latest version???

Thanks to this thread, I got to know of other Mobile IM clients than Fring and Octrotalk.

I ran through y/day (to my IM buddies confusion!) trialling out all the IM clients suggested and find myself sticking to JiveTalk.

    Easy setup.
    Nice Interface.
    Choice of minor customisations'

File Transfer: Does not have it, but that's not a big deal for me.
Battery: mightymike suggested that it may be a battery sucker. For me not much of a hassle, since my Q9H is either USB'd to my lappie on ActiveSyn or on a car charger.

glad to hear the thread has helped you :) i thought it might benefit most people.

one thing to point out, jivetalk is a pay program. although right now it is free because it is in beta stages, its wise to assume that it will become a pay program. just a heads up :)

one thing to point out. do u find that it moves suggish??? why am i the only one with the problems lol :(

    mightymike,

I've been using JiveTalk for just over a day now. So far I dont see anything I can complain about. Will keep an eye on it and report back.

    Beta/priced:
I guessed as much when I saw that the full Blackberry version is @ $19.95 or @29.95. I expect the price of the WM version to be around that. Going on what I see of JiveTalk, I dont think I would have a problem. I am also expecting that coming out of beta, some more bells, whistles, features might be added.

Very late, but like everyone else - looking for that best mobile messaging app. I like the apps like VZW IM.. They remain connected (AIM in my case) and I never have to worry about the actual app gateway being a point of failure for me. So long as I have cell service I can send IMs ..

I use Slick when I want to be logged in, otherwise I have AIM forwarding so I don't have to have the app open all the time.

I use the official Windows Live Messenger client by Microsoft... and the Palringo client

both are very good programs, and both are free. I've used the Octro client a little bit, but it tended to be rather buggy.

I use OZ Instant Messaging. It's the one that downloads when you click on the IM link in the start menu on sprint phones.

seems to work well... able to log into messenger, aim and yahoo all at the same time.

seems convenient, however, i haven't tried others so i have no basis for comparison.
