Looks like those of you who hoped for this feature will soon get their wish.
According to wmpoweruser.com, Twitter will adapt push notifications to the iPhone app, then make it available to the Windows Phone version shortly after.
I, personally, was not crazy about the idea of having Twitter update it's Live Tile until I read how this feature would be implemented. Only the '@' mention notifications will be pushed/updated to the Live Tile and this is something that I can see being useful.

So as of right now there is no other way to get notified on the phone (aside from email or sms) about an @ reply?

It's been that way on the iPhone (using official app) until yesterday.

So, to answer your question, no there is no way.

Some do. I know initially you needed an app called Boxcar. I'm finding the tiles to be incredibly useful, but I was thinking out great it would be if we got some updates to the Twitter tile.

yeah but even the iPhone implementation is still the big dorky bubble that pops up and has to be dismissed. Live tiles will be a much more elegant implementation.

Live tiles are indeed more elegant.

In all ....does anybody know how many live tiles apps there are?. I may be misinformed but I only know of the weather channel app.!
