Then you have bad service nationwide compared to AT&T and Verizon, so I feel for you :tounge:

Seriously, I didn't know that Sprint carried the original Q, good times.

Its too bad Sprint is bad here in LA. I might have jumped ship already, given they have the 6.1 update and SERO plans.

Yes, it has the same purpose. Ambient light sensor.

what i dont get about it is that it gets brighter in bright places and darker in dark places . i don't know if it is supposed to be the other way around but i have friends with phones that have the similar technology , except their phones get darker in the light and brighter in the dark

the smart backlight (working this way at least) makes it easier on your eyes at night because you don't need as much backlight in a dark room to make the screen visible.

When the ambient light level is high, the pupil of the eye constricts to reduce the amount of light hitting the retina; when the ambient light level is low, the pupil dilates and to allow more light. In other words, to see the screen, you need more background light in a brightly lit environment and less in the dark.
Thus, the light sensor approach should be as Motorola has it. It would appear that your friends phones don't have any similar technology.
