    Texting In Class

I'm looking for something that will let me edit a profile to play a noise for text messages while keeping the ring silent. I know how to go to Settings > Sounds to change it, but i want a profile for school that would not ring for the phone, but still play a tone for texts (like mosquito). I would still like the easy switch back to the ring for the phone and vibrate for texts.

Sorry if this is the wrong section. I don't know if i'm missing something obvious or if i need software.

    Thanks in advance.

I guess i'm just one of those problem kids. School is boring for me. I have strait As however.

Back on subject: The vibrate makes a sound though, I have downloaded a high-frequency tone (mosquito) which my teachers can't hear and would like to use that in the "Silent" profile.

    start settings profiles
then hit the the right soft key (menu) and hit edit and you should be able to edit the profile you want

When I hit "Edit" I am able to change the name, Ring type, Volume, Alarm Type/Volume, Notification Type/Volume, and System Sound Volume.

I think i'm just being a big hassle.
At the beginning of school ill probably just change it.

    Thanks anyway

By the way, not all people grow out of being able to hear those tones, so you still may get caught.

you can set the rig volume to off, doesnt matter what ring type it is, and then notification type put play sound and volume whatever you want. everything else should be off. then go to sounds and change the new text message sound to mosquito.

as a side note though, i had that sound downloaded on my other phone and it got really annoying really fast. sometimes i wouldnt even be able to hear it. just leave it on silent and put it in front of you and when it lights up you got a text! its been working for me

i do have a question though. is there anyway to change the length of the vibrate or make it into a pattern? my sisters blackberry just has 3 short vibrates and then long ones for phone calls

you can edit the ringtone script. search for it. i think it may be posted in the hacks forum. you can pretty much make it ring / vib anyway you want for how long you want.... ive done mine a million times.

Sorry for the trouble everyone. I was hoping i missed something really obvious and it was a kind of "duhh" moment. I care wayyyyy too much about my phone and know wayyyyyy too little about regedit that i dont like to mess with it. Im just going to take Scott's advice and be a good little kid who doesnt text in class.
