This only changes the base color to black (or any other color you want), so with WinMo 5 you're not gonna get the new shiny keys that WinMo 6 has.

I'll check out the program in a bit.
But it just makes me wonder even more. What does the program change that we can't?

    From that site:

"In order to change the UI colors, one can use a registry editor and change the DWORD value BaseHue in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Color.
The accepted value of this DWORD value ranges from 0 to 4294967295. If you choose a value between 0 - 255, you'll get greyscale UI colors. Any other value from 256 above gives you "colored" UI elements.
I read in a forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=38186) that whereas the accepted value of BaseHue is up to 4294967295, the colors actually just repeat. The main hue value are from 256 to 510. Anything higher will give you the same colors as represented by those numbers."

I haven't tried changing the registry itself yet, but I will later sometime tonight. This might be a way for it to stick even when changing homescreens.

OK So it's changing one setting that "controls" all the others.

I know I could've read a tutorial to how-to but that stuff doesn't seem to stick in my brain.
I now have purple gloss bars, blue highlighting, yellow taskbar text and orange homescreen text with white soft key text. Yeah I'm pimping out my Q :)
I'm mapping what the XML does. I'm going to play with "COLOR_TRAYGRADLEFT" and see what sticks.

-edit- I'm about convinced that the XML file is doing little.
It seems to use what's entered as a suggestion and picks close to it.
Anything "greyscale" including white is shown as grey.
I can change a few different shades of blue but go too dark or too light and it stays at the last theme, I was trying to "trick" it into showing a dark blue instead of black :)
I wonder if a reboot could be needed. My phone won't switch from the Sprint theme without one.

Yeah, it seems the .xml for homescreens can control certain elements, but changing the basehue dword value in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Color changes one "basehue" that other UI elements are based off.

So after playing around with the registry I have found "black" to be "160", my Q9c still resets to "grey" (123) after changing homescreens, but any changes survive a soft reset.

I just tried BaseHueExpress and it's done.
Kinda odd. Now I'm wonderinf what the Ace does different.

    Excitement!

I went to a Sprint store and the nice women let me put my storage card in the Samsung knowing what I was trying to do.
I installed Rescoe Explorer and the registry plugin and went to work.
This was after a lot of trying to figure out the bluetooth to beam the files to my phone, I couldn't figure it out nor could she.
Odd thing, the Samsung file explorer would let me see all the files in the \Application Data\Home folder but Rescoe wouldn't, but REscoe did let me copy the entire folder to my card.
With the store closing I blindly exported the entire HKCU\ControlPanel\Home key.
    Not much there though.

So for your experimenting pleasure I present:

the Samsung Black Theme in zip form.

I haven't tried it yet but I'm not holding out much hope.
While doing some more customizing I noticed that just about everything has hex colors set in them, in this case the CHome XML file.
The phone just ignores them so SOMETHING is setting the colors and is "hidden".

    HAHA! Silly phone.

While the Samsung Theme on the phone is not true black it's still darker than the Grey Theme on the 9c.
Just tried it and... That's right: Grey :)

Like I said for experimenting. I actually modded that with some different colors and am using it.

It's looks like a darker grey on the samsung but it could only be an illusion.
    The bar color is #808080.

Maybe I'm not following completely but what does this mean for the q9m? Is it possible to get the glossy black? If so, how?
