REQ: Samsung Ace "Theme". (A.K.A. The Quest For Gloss Black Bars).

I hope this is the right spot.
Anyway I was at Sprint today and picked up an Ace.
It took awhile for it to set in but the Ace has a Black Gloss Theme like the Q9c has a Grey Gloss Theme.
The file browser was limited I was set on finding and beaming it to my phone but no luck.

Anyone know where to find this on the net? Is there an Ace forum?
Or do I need to go back ready to beam Total Commander to the Ace then the theme to my phone and make a quick escape? :)

Needles to say I've been looking for a black gloss theme. The grey isn't doing it for me and neither does the popular flat black theme.

Is the grey gloss theme from the Q9c the same as the one u saw on the Ace (only in black) cuz it could be Photoshop'd to black real easy? Or can u find images of that theme so that the designers here recreate it?

Yes it looked like the Q9cs Grey theme only in black.
I figured it would be easier just to find the original file(s).

I'm still trying to figure out just what is involved, if anything, besides the XML file.

I got creative and started searching for "black.scheme.xml" and got some results but had some interesting results.
The bar is still grey but the rest of the theme's colors change.

What other files or registry entries are needed?

Yes, I'm aware of that bar.
It's flat, The Ace bars are glossy.

oh heck no!! Not my first choice of words
It's as unstable as it is pretty even after the "stability" tweaks.

I agree, but that's the only two answers I know of to get Black Soft Keys. I don't use STK myself just for that reason.

So what's the reason? That's the question now.
Is there some reason gloss black won't work?

I'm a n00b at this but I also took the Grey xml changed the the hex colors to #000000 except for the text and it was still grey.
This was the extreme after changing each to black to see what would happen.

There was a mention on another forum of a registry setting controling the color on WM5 but I don't have that. There's no "scheme.xml" in the registry.

Check out this thread. As far as I can see though, it gives u the same effect as Eko's Black soft keys (Flat black) but makes them permanent, so u dont have to select them.

Only the people at STK would know how to accomplish the Shiny new Soft Keys but many have approached them to just making that part of STK available, w/o any luck.

    That has some possibilities, maybe.
At least I have an idea where to look if I get my hands on an Ace.
I think I'll find a friendly RadioShack or another sprint Store that will let me explore the phone. dern word prediction does't work in Opera.

So I'll look in... ok. I just checked Total commander has no option for exporting registry keys so I couldn't get them to my phone this way.
    I wonder how Rescoe behaves.

I think this is what you want (I originally posted as bmnot. Also check out the attached screenshot on post 245 of the same thread for a picture):

    http://www.everythingq.com/forum/moto-q-9c/post-your-wm6-1-screens-here-22795-25.html#post207139

Yeah, the black (true black) menus for some reason never worked on Moto Q's, both first gen and the Q9's, even after changing the values in .xml files to "000000". All you got was a light grey.

However, I found this http://greatbal.blogspot.com/ site, scroll way down and download BaseHue Express. Just unzip and copy the .exe to any folder on your Q. Then just click on the .exe from file manager to run the program.

You can use it to get any color, but to get black, do this:

    1) Menu>Use Greyscale
    2) Hit down on your d-pad 12 times
    3) Apply
    4) Quit
    5) Might need to redo steps 1-4 after making changes to your home screen

    Hope that helps.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't u have to reload this color everytime u power on/off. I though I read that somewhere. That would be a Royal pain.

Nope, just everytime you change your homescreen or if you remove the battery from the phone.

This is basically the same thing as Eko's correct? It still doesn't address what he is looking for: The Glossy Black Soft keys.

Nope, but that does look nice. Just seems like alot of work to have them if u change your HS frequently like some do. THanks for the heads up though.

EDIT* I just tried your instructions to the T, on my WM5 Q8 and am NOT able to change them. I 1st stuck it on my Storage card & ran from there, then I put it in MY Documents and ran from there, and NO go. I wonder if it has anything to do with Eko's being on my Q. Who knows. Im happy with Eko, so I will stick with hers, which sticks with any HS change as long as u put preserveShemeAndBackground in the global settings. May not be shiny, but less work.
