So I got to work to plug it back in, and now it comes up and looks like it wants to do a master reset. its stuck on the screen that says Motorloa Flash mode. Bootloader Verson: Blah balh... and then USB Cable Connected and nothing happens. What to do?? <tear>

you try taking the battery out and putting it back in again and then trying to start it up again?

I know for me, if the phone is OFF, I can't turn it on / restart it if it's connected to the USB cable or charger. I have to unplug it first. Don't know why that works?

    yes I have...

If I connect the Q to my computer, it will stay at the black Boot Loader Screen, and say USB Cable Connected.... after about 1 or 2 min, the screen goes black, if I unplug it, it will turn back on and tell me to reconnect the USB

did you try to fire up the VZW 800 number for data support? I'd do that first before bringing it in to a VZW retail store.

If it won't turn on at all. And you have no chance for back up. A hard reset is an option.

With the phone off press and hold they silver action key(5 seconds). While still holding the silver key, press and hold the end key.

This will completely erase your phone and start over from scratch.

Same thing happened to me. My battery was dead too. I'm not sure, but this may be a factor.

I charge my phone every night. I went to make a call (on my original phone) and the phone was dead, so I plugged it in to the USB cable to see if it would change. I turned it on and saw the Sprint logo, then I got the flashing battery. I turned it off and back on, this time I saw the boot loader screen that said "plug in USB Cable". After hours on the phone with Sprint, I finally got someone to replace it.

This is kind of after the fact for me, but I wanted to share what happened to mine. This morning I sat down at my computer and was checking my email, when I saw my q reset for no apparent reason. It was sitting next to me and was plugged into the USB cable. It had been charging all night. It then came up to the battery charge screen. (I saw the charge screen before by accident; I don't know how you get to it on purpose.) So, I pulled the plug and tried to restart the phone, but nothing happened. When I plugged it in and then pulled the plug, it showed it was on the bootloader screen like you all describe. I spent 3 hours trying to find the key combinations that worked at the bootloader screen. Its a Sprint Q, so there was no firmware I could load on it either. I finally gave up. I called Sprint tech support, but as expected they didn't even know what a bootloader was. So, I took it back to the Sprint store and they gave me a brand new one. Problem solved. But seriously, there has got to be a simple way to get out of the bootloader screen.

...from what I've been reading, it sounds like the ultimate solution is to take it back to the store. Of course, I've tried just about everything with no results, and I wasn't able to do the reset as described previously in this thread. I surely don't want to spend my morning on the phone just to have the rep rehash all of the things I have tried already (as is always the case). Since the store doesn't actually open for a few hours, I thought I'd post in case anyone else has any info to share on this unfortunate issue. Thanks.

...as a follow-up from my last post. I brought the phone to the Verizon store. The tech took one look at it and I got another one. Anyway, I hope this thread helps anyone looking for info on this issue.

my story, i got my new Q, didn't get to use it, less than a day, battery died.
Then I got the bootloader crap, I've been waiting for a replacement since last tuesday and still waiting. my first full month of no use of the service and phone whatsoever. the 30 day phone replacement/exchange is going to end and i don't even know if the 2nd phone is going to be the same defective crap with the bootloader. if my 2nd Q happens to do the same, would i still be able to get a replacement even though my 30 days is up?
i mean its taking sprint over 2 weeks just to send the 2nd replacement.

    kind of found a solution

if the Q is stuck at bootloader you can flash the motorola's software update
    package!

The only catch there is it cannot be at the latest update. if it is at the
latest update then it wont update it.
So make sure the battery is charged as the update uses battery power.

Run the motorola software update program from their website
    select your provider.
Remove battery, put in battery, if it turns on at the boot loader,
plug in the usb cable before it goes cable connected without it being
connected. This is crucial as it will let the OS know that the device
is connected. If it says already usb cable connected before you
connect the cable, its stuck already and you will have to
remove battery and repeat step. If the phone doesnt turn
on by itself when plugging in battery, plug in usb cable
after putting in battery then remove the cable.
it should turn on at the bootloader. Then plug in usb cable quickly
so that os sees the plugin.

If the bootloader screen comes and turns off, then your battery may not
be charged. And im not sure that you can charge the battery
while its in bootloader mode. So you may have to borrow a charged battery.

Ok so let the motorola software detect the phone and let it begin update
process. Let it go through and you might get your phone back.
If not take it back to the carrier for help.

I believe the phone gets this way due to power surges from the charger.
If possible use the charger with a surge protected outlet.
    hope this helps someone.

What the problem originally occurred there was no software update available. The only thing on the Moto web site was the Verizon update. Otherwise, I would have tried that. Why do you think it is power surges from the charger?

I don't think its related to power surge.

Hold the A and the Enter key at the same time on your Q and it should get out of bootloader for you.

I have tried to do this but it doesnt work.
I jumped the gun on the solution, the flash fails.
Reason i believe its a rom chip surging because everyone
that had this problem said they were charging the phone. (guesstimate)

I do believe the rom is fried/corrupt.
That is why it doesnt know what else todo except stay at the loader.

I actually tried flashing it, it doesnt complete successfully with the
    motorola software update.

Here are the log files from flash folder software

They told me something about holding down on the Silver round button (function) after you have removed the battery and held down on the red power button for two seconds.

Supposedly this can get you into a master reset without loading windows.
