Q keeps disconnecting from BT headsets!?

Hey all, new to this forum. I just got my first Q, upgrading from a long line of Motorolas. I'm not a newbie, and I understand pairing of bluetooth headsets and how they operate. My last phone was a V710, and my Motorola 850 Headset worked like a charm. I never took the phone out of my pocket - just flipped open the headset, and it answered every call, every time. Now on to the Q... Grrr... I paired it to the headset no problemo, and it works right away. After the first call, I close the headset, and then it's like the Q doesn't see it anymore. The Bluetooth is ON, and on the homepage, it shows the BT symbol, but I can pick up the headset, open it up, press buttons, dance in circles, and it won't answer the calls. Ever. Except the first time. If I reconnect it by going to the bluetooth manager it works again - but again, only for one call. This is insane. I bought an HS500 headset from Verizon, thinking that a newer headset would work better (and use the same charger as the phone), but it does the same thing. I've even read the manual! Imagine that... I've tried using different profiles, like Headset, but no dice... Somebody please explain this, or even prove that I'm stupid... I just don't want to have to return this phone.

I have similar problems. Not after one call necessarily, but the headset (I have a Discovery 640; also tried my old Plantronics 510 - same thing happens) loses contact quite often. Other times it will stay connected for more than an hour. I was considering going to the Verizon store this weekend for a replacement Q, but after reading 1SiriusDude's post, I think it might be a waste of time.

    Bluetooth Disconnect Update

I think I might have solved my particular disconnect problem.

I had wanted to be able to turn Bluetooth on and off without having to wade through menus so I downloaded and installed SmartTweaker and chose the so-called "Bluetooth Toggle."

It didn't work. In trying to uninstall SmartTweaker, I ended up having to delete Voice Notes from my Q, but some vestige of SmartTweaker still lurked.

This morning I found SmartTweaker in my registry and deleted it. I tested the Bluetooth connection by doing a few of the things that made it disconnect previously and so far it's been working fine.

BTW, if anyone knows how to repair (my uninstall was not completely successful - it's there, but won't open) or reinstall Voice Notes, I'd like to have it working again, although I'll probably never use it.

Go into the bluetooth manager and select the paired devices list. Find your headset, and click Menu=>Properties. (Giving this from memory, so it may not be exact). When the headset information / profile pops up, make sure the checkbox that says "Allow this device to connect" is checked. I am assuming under Bluetooth Manager=>Options, you have unchecked the box "Allow other devices to see this phone" or whatever is says there. Sorry to be so vauge, but I am typing this whilst half asleep, having come downstairs to have a cigarette ;)

yeah I have swapped out my hs850 a few times primarily because i kept getting this harsh sound when i ended a call. Anyway on my most recent exchange i ran into the problem of the Q dropping the connection whenever i closed the boom, but on previous versions i never had that issue, i could just open it back up and at most most push the button for it to resume the connection...well i followed codeguys instructions and while i didnt see 'allow this device to connect" in the properties menu, i did see a "secure connection" box and i unchecked that and then it worked. but being the inqusitive individual that i am, i wasnt convinced that that was it, so i went back in and rechecked the box and sure enough it still works. so i dont know what the problem was it seems to be one of those situations where playing around with it eventually fixes the problem... kind of like button mashing your video game controller till you figure out what your doing. At any rate thx to codeguy for pointing me in the right direction

I have problem with my H500 too. Last night I heard a beep and there was no way I could get it to connect. My solution was to go into the Bluetooth Mgr and delete the H500 setup. Then get it to search for a new headset after turning the H500 in training mode. So far so good.

Frankly as a former broadcasting engineer, it is my observation that either the phone or headset is susceptible to RFI (radio frequency interference) from other sources. e.g. hearing beeps in headset when at a gas pump doing credit card or traffic signals or high power station nearby when driving. Neither of the units is well shielded.

After doing the Software Update, I was having the same issues. I just did a Master Reset. All is well in the BT world again.

may or may not be related, i had my BT headset (Plantronics 510 Voyager) disconnect involuntarily numerous times a day, i later discovered it was due to Candle Light: stopped using it, problem solved.

This may or may not help.

Motorolas sometimes have a problem. It is mainly on non-SPhone series phones but make sure the name of your Q in BT Manager is NOT the default Motorola Q. Use your name and Q aftward.

Example...Motorola RAZR will always drop after first call because of the way that the RAZR was broadcasting the name.

I would have to check with my tech for the more "technical definition" as to why. But at least give it a shot and maybe it'll help.

It seemed to be more efficient on my Q. Thanks.

Adam, Do you know anything about the cameras? Info such as where the focal point of the lens is seeking ... outer or center aiming?

Sorry not particularly. Are you trying to improve quality or just find out what it is just centering on like a view finder?

Not sure....this would be a good question to throw in the main forum and ask in the general Q questions.

wow....i see that im not alone here. ive been having issues with bluetooth for a while also.

strangly, i'll turn on the bluetooth and the phone will recognize it. i'll put on the headset and dial the numbr using the phone. when i hit send.....the phone will use its ear peice then suddenly switch over to the headset. it also drops calls all the time.

im very dissapointed in the q's blooth capabilities.

I find that the only way to gt relable bluetooth connections is to remember to reboot my phone every few days
