i think he means using WPS the virtual gps.
Or an external BT GPS.
That's what I was thinking. I was hoping there was something else out there that I was missing
My Easy workaround is using the NEW ROM with GPS ENABLED.... YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(of course thats "when/if" the new ROM is available)
So when this new rom is released is it going to act like the my location for the storm? i've noticed that the storm only puts you within like x amount of feet. While realtime gps is exact and to the point.
Brent would prob. be the only one right now that could answer this since hes used it.
Seeing as I'll be away from my desk for a week, i expect the ROM to be out tomorrow morning so it can extract the maximum quantity of frustration from me...
Should have left your desk sooner :laugh2: j/k
Damn. Verizon just unlocked the gps on the Touch Pro! The new Rom is available.
havent seen one for us tho
The Saga is again out of stock at Verizon...
That's region dependent; it's still listed as In Stock for my area (San Francisco Bay Area).
gettin extremely restless over this ROM. where the heck is it? hasnt it been like almost a month now since its been DUE out for us? and meanwhile the touch has apparently already passed us and got it some how this is bull.
If they don't give us the unlock ROM, I will spend several hours on the phone with customer service bitching until they give me my money back or until they've paid their CSR's more money than I paid for my Saga to talk to me.
I bought it on the promise of unlocked GPS.
Really? Where did you get that promise? I would love to see it in writing?
Me thinks he misspelled "premise" <G>
I would guess that since the Curve and the Touch Pro are unlocked; Brent has the Saga ROM in hand and the Omnia has been cracked that there is a pretty good chance that VZW is going to follow through on their earlier promise. As it is with the wifi gps working I am content enough that the Saga does everything I need. What a great phone.
Here is what Steve Schwed of Verizon said:
…In the case of open standalone GPS, we are partnering with the Windows Mobile device manufacturers to provide a software upgrade that will add this capability to the existing assisted GPS capability. This is a complex development project to provide open standalone GPS while maintaining the assisted GPS capability with the level of performance and security that our customers expect. The recently introduced Windows Mobile devices including Omnia, Saga, and Touch Pro are targeted to add open standalone GPS in the 1st half of 2009.
The new Omnia ROM, which a co-worker is running, also has GPS unlocked (no... sadly it is not 6.5)
I'm content to wait. I've always used a map and Google before, it's not like this is the app that broke the camels back.
