Hey Bob with the 3.0 upgrade you can turn the keyboard landscape now and that makes it much nicer to type. Voice command dialing is available on the 3 GS that came out today. I wasn't eligible for a subsidized upgrade to the 3 GS so I will wait and be content with the 3.0 upgrade.

The 600mhz processor on the new iphone can run at 800mhz if unlocked. The phone is also capapble of recording at 720p, but that also needs to be unlocked.
As for the touch interface, I've tried a lot of touch phones and so far the Iphone's interface worked best in my opinion.
The only things stopping me from getting the new version is lack of a physical keyboard and no multi-tasking. Maybe next year's version will take care of that.

This is a list of things that I use my Q for.

    - cell phone

    - alarm clock

    - desktop (full internet capabilities, documents, Paint, instant messaging)

    - directions

    - weather

    - TV

    - portable gaming console

    - mp3 player

    - internet radio / podcast player

    - scanner

    - camera / video camera

    - photo album

    - audio mixer

    - video editor

    - piano

    - calculator (regular, scientific, tip, Texas Hold 'Em, health)

    - calendar

    - translator

    - converter (measurements, currency)

    - voice recorder

    - stopwatch

    - compass

    - cyclometer

    - flashlight (actual flashlight, not just screen)

    - ruler

    - 8-ball (not the one associated with cocaine)

    - Rubik's Cube (couldn't solve one in real life, can't solve one in a phone)

On top of that, I could use my Q as a modem for my computer but my unlimited data plan would get cut off. :) I love having cut, copy, and paste, visual voicemail, full Bluetooth, SMS, and MMS capability, voice command, infrared, and an external memory slot.

This is a list of things I have in my Q.

    800 songs

    2 comedy specials

    3 movies

150 games (including Nintendo and Super Nintendo)

    thousands of pictures

All of this is why I love my Q. Yes, I know some of these things are useless but it's still nice to have.

...and most modern smartphones can do those things.

I believe (opinion) they designed the iPhone without an external memory slot simply to reduce the file sharing of pay products. Yes their are ways around that but they aren't as easy as swapping memory cards with your buddy.

You think that's also the reason why there isn't Bluetooth capability with other phones? It's a pretty good point. Apple always did protect their content. All you have to do is look at iTunes. If that's the case, that's pretty lame.

I have (on my Saga), 0 songs, 1 WMV (Wizards of Winter because the lights are awesome and I love the music beat), 1 movie clip, and about 10 pictures and 1 purchased game (Sodoku).

I check 3 email accounts with it, web browse when needed, and us it to keep me in touch with the office when I'm not in the office.

For the BT it could have been a liscense issue or simply a real estate one. Figure they designed the board at least a year before it hit the market. At that time BT wan'st big or even around. I haven't seen the inner wokings of one, but I can be pretty sure it's fairly crammed. Scince then most mods have been software bugs or more memory. The memory is easy..chip for chip. No extra space needed.

    Thanks Scott!
I gather that we will have some new Motorola Smartphones to talk about soon enough here. While they didn't give me any specifics, the guys from Moto did ask what my impressions of android were

well I told them that I hadn't had much of a chance, or reason to check it out because I don't have T-mobile as my carrier, and because I didn't think they had added MS exchange support yet. But I am told they have. They asked if I would like to check it out
