    Moto Q 9c and Sprint 3G

    Hello everyone,

I have the MotoQ 9c with Sprint EVDO,
Can this phone be used with the new 3G network?
If so, do i call sprint to find out how it can be done?

    Thanks for your help.

    I think 3G = EvDo.
Sprint and VZW just renamed it.

well EvDO is a little different than what AT&T call 3G, but it is a 3G (third generation) data technology.

    Yes. ATT's 3G is UMTS/HSDPA and Sprints/VZW's 3G is EVDO.

Besides the different band, the speeds are slightly different. Other than that not much.

The biggest difference I found is that UMTS/HSDPA can multitask, in the sense that you can be on a call and access the internet at the same time. From my understanding EvDo can't do this. It's one or the other. So if you're using data, and someone calls, they will go straight to voicemail. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone... I'm about to migrate to sprint from att in a few months.

You'll have to compare network coverage for providers. Verizon has the largest Broadband Ev-DO coverage area in the U.S. but at&t has the fastest 3G HSPA. Depends on where you live for service. And according to vzw there new thing is that if you are in a data session and you recieve a call it will go through as would a normal call. You still won't be able to do both. Whether you are on 1x or Ev-DO coverage area. Here's the website with that info.

Good info thanks. CPOP is a good step forward but still falls short. I like the fact that the call will go through and data session resumes after, but I don't like the fact that data will become dormant. So it's still one or the other. With HSDPA, I can download something or load a page uninterrupted in the background while on a call. I wonder if sprint has CPOP?

No Problem. I agree that HSPA is more advanced, more user friendly and is capable of preforming data usage and voice calls at the same time. But you have to consider too that at&t's 3G coverage area is limited to a few major cities so if you dont happen to live in one of these... Verizon has a large coverage area for broadband. It's a give and take.

Very true. I live in an area where Sprint, VZW and ATT all have excellent coverage. I'm going with migrating over to sprint because they have cheaper plans than the other 2.

I have never received a call while browsing. I have, however, received plenty of nasty voicemails asking "why the hell are we paying so much for your cell service when you never answer your damn phone!" Plenty of times, have fun with that.

Hey mrlorider, my name is BJ DeHut and I am a representative for Sprint. All the comments to this thread are correct. EVDO is stands for Evolution-Data Optimized and simply is 3G speed for a CDMA network (which Sprint and Verizon both are).
