Hi and welcome to the forums!

I'm also a Mac user and have been working with the alpha version of Mark/Space's Missing Sync for Windows Mobile. I spent months trying to get it functioning with the the 700w. By mistake, I got it working while trying to connect my Treo 700p to my PowerBook. I plan on working with the Q and Missing Sync this weekend -- and will report back. So, yes it is in the works, but we're waiting for a full release from Mark/Space. Out of the box, the Mac is not supported.

I'll also be adding a Mac forum this weekend too.

Good news on the Mac front. I've gone through the process of syncing using Mark/Space's Missing Sync and things appear to be in working order. I'll post a full overview later this weekend. Seems to be working and wasn't so difficult to set up. Here's the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile 2.5 page on Mark/Space's site.

Are you initiating the sync from the Q or from the MacBook Pro?

Have you set-up the Q as a mobile device on the MacBook?

    Same problem here.

I can't even sync from the missing sync app. I does not seen to see the Q. the sync funtions are grayed out.

I initiate the sync from the Q, get 2 dots then nothing.

    Cracked the case!!!
Make sure you put the Missing Sync CAB file in the My Documents folder in the Q. When I move it there it finally worked.

    Good luck Hiphoprenuer!

Use Q as Modem on Mac?

Hi, Chris. According to Verizon, the Q can be used as a modem with a laptop using a cable. Have you tested this with a Mac laptop? And specifically, have you tested with Verizon as the "broadband" service? That's one of the key reasons I'd buy a Q -- free me from finding hotspots and perhaps let me dump my lousy home DSL service (SBC Yahoo). Thanks.

I did with the first revision of software. Since upgrading I haven't tried it. I know many have had trouble after the update. If you are an active internet user, I think it would be tough to replace your home service with the Q. You'd probably put up some serious bandwith numbers causing a flag to go up at Verizon.

When I did connect, browsing was ok. It was a few months back, but I remember it being similar to 56k modem speed. I'm on FIOs, so everything outside of that feels slow.

Verizon does support DUN with a fee. I'm already into VZW for $200 a month, so never inquired about it.

These are the BT Dun tethering on the Q instructions that I followed.

    Does Q-as-Modem Require a Dial-Up Account?

Thanks for your very helpful reply, Chris. I had to look up "DUN" (Dial-Up Networking, a Bluetooth profile allowing use of a wireless Bluetooth connection to a phone or other device serving as a modem for the computer, in case other readers also don't know), but otherwise clear and to the point.

One more concern: When using the Q as a modem, are you accessing the Internet directly via Verizon's broadband service, or do you need to have a dial-up account apart from Verizon that you dial into, or do you get a Verizon dial-up number for 'Net access (and if the latter, does it cost extra)? Verizon's Web site says the plan I'm considering comes with "unlimited" data access. However, are plan minutes being used while the phone is connecting to the Internet during daytime hours
? If that's the case, then I'd go broke if I tried to use it to supplant my home service and the WiFi caf├ęs I use.

    Thanks. :)
