    root

Basically what I'm saying is that the pim file was already IN my root, so I tried copying it to the root again.

    Is the info lost gentlemen?

Is a Windows Update the same thing as a reset?

if you are talking about a firmware update (windows update) on the Q it might as well be the samething since it updates the device with the new software and clears the device at the same time of the old info

    ok

I totally understand, Scott, thanks. I did not back anything up. My bad. LEARN FROM ME EVERYONE:)

Does it pay to run to a technical support center after work to see if they can grab the pim file in any way to get it back on to the phone?

Otherwise I do have other cell phones with contact info and can just start over...

Are you POSITIVE there is nothing tech support can do to grab the pim file?

I mine as well do a master reset now... FUN! More QT with my Q:)

Rudeboy: It was not backed up, but it still exists on my root path.

look for the 'thank you buttong' at the bottom of anyones post you want to thank

i am positive they can not recover it

no need to master reset really if you did the firmware update it already reset the device for you...hence you not having contacts

    Hello Everyone

Hello everyone, this is my first post, so go easy on me.

Is this a normal thing for smartphones in general to lose all the contact information when the battery is pulled or is this just a quirk of the Moto Q?

    Thanks

    Ah-oh

I've lost my contacts 3 times now due to battery running out of charge or pulling the battery. If I didn't save the info to the SIM, they were gone. This is a brand new Q. The first time I lost the contacts was when I changed from the standard battery to the extended battery. Would you all vote I have a bad phone then? I'm just trying to make sure this isn't normal for this phone.

    Thanks again.

its not normal...i have been doing it for 18 months and never happened to me
might want to get another one
  19. Agree with Scott- not normal behavior.

To the other poster- take your old phone with you to a store and see if they can transfer numbers for you.

    Will Do

Okay. I really appreciate the good information. I'll be getting a new phone as soon as possible.

This is a really valuable forum, btw. Thanks for the quick responses.

Where is that "Thank You" button? Will it count if I just say it?

    Thank you for the help.
