I haven't been following the thread, but I jumped on the product sign unseen to catch the savings...

The product is ok, but not quite up to the level of polish I was expecting. I'm currently experiencing a problem where

    a) the beeping doesn't stop (until I kill the app)

    and

    b) My personal contact ringer is not sticking. After playing around with this one for a while, it seems that it might be related to not actually selecting a tone. This might be problematic if I just want the phone to vibrate when a particular person emails me.

lastly, I was wondering if there was any way to access some of the sounds that WM6 can access for its tones. Normally I use "Alert-Instant Message" for my incoming texts that I'd like to assign via this program, but cannot seem to access it.

    thanks

I beg to differ. InboxTones, as well as the other QoreFunctions apps I've found to be extremely polished and bug free! Been using PushEffect for the last year without any issues whatsoever. InboxTones has been working flawlessly as well. Have it installed on a Q9m and Q9 Global. Two associate use it as well on other WM devices without any problem.

Don't know what you are referring to by "beeping". InboxTones plays assigned tones whenever SMS or emails arrive.

I have contact ringtones set up as well through the OS with no interference at all.

I can use any tone located in My Sounds or the Windows directories, in either main memory or the storage card. In fact, I personaly use the "Alert Instant Message" tone that you mentioned above with no problem at all.
Based on all the positive feedback in this thread, it sounds like you have something else going on with your device that's unrelated to InboxTones.

    Fantastic app, highly recommended!

It's not my intention to unduly slur/slander InboxTones, but rather to provide an honest assessment, to promote troubleshooting of issues I've experienced, and some constructive criticism.

    To address your points:

    - Playing the assigned tones;
Right, I should have been more specific, I set the tone to a beep, and it kept endlessly replaying the tone until I killed it in Task Manager. If it is of any diagnostic value, I noticed that in Task Manager, the name of the program switched from whatever gibberish the program is usually titled to "Activemovie Window" (or something close to that) and stayed there.

On that note, that's another thing I noted about 'polish'. Normally the inboxtones background application shows up as a bunch of gibberish, {DA00A50F-F1CB-40bc-... It would have been nicer to have the program list "InboxTones" in the task manager, so I could see what the program is--that is a polish issue for me. In addition to that, I just feel that the GUI could be a little more intuitive to use, the segmentation between account tones and sender tones is a little awkward and took a while for me to figure out.

    - So you see Alert-Instant Message under the list of choices for your sounds? That doesn't appear in my list in InboxTones, but does in my normal WM6 setup. I'm not really sure why there would be a difference between our units.

    - Is there anyway to modulate the volume of the tone without relying on adjusting the Windows Media Player volume? I have mine set to 50% for music listening purposes on my BT headphones and would like to avoid changing the volume set on my Window Media Player.

Again, I'm not trying to be a curmudgeon here, but to provide reasonable criticisms to help a product improve.
    Thanks

Neo...there is a fix coming out to resolve the WMP deal. And I'm sure when Qore posts back here they would like to address your issues...

Appreciate your comments, but they seem to be directed more towards programming style and less towards functionality.

Honestly, I've run InboxTones through its paces, tried a bunch of different tones with multiple formats (WAV, MID, and MP3) and have not found any PDA friendly tones that don't play. I receive many emails and SMS throughout the day, and InboxTones never skips a beat! Maybe there's something funny about this "beep" tone you mention?

In terms of how it's listed in the Task Manager, not a biggie. I don't think this would really matter to most users. It's kind of a set it and forget thing anyway.

In terms of the GUI (are you a programmer?), I think it's great. Extremely well laid out and very logical. Tones for Accounts and Tones for Contacts makes total sense. I had it setup in two minutes flat.

My "Alert-Instant Message" tone plays all day long.

Sounds like an update for sound modulation is coming according to Tree (although I don't have any issues in this area).

IMO, I think the bottom line is functionality, InboxTones works very well (without unnecessary bloat), and that's all anybody really cares about.

    Hi Folks,

We've been following this most recent discussion. Rather unusual comments...not the typical feedback we receive. We tend to agree, they do seem a bit more critical of programming style...which is strange. Perhaps the poster is a programmer or works for another software company?...

However, we do appreciate the comments from this forum and they've helped make InboxTones an absolute BEST seller! So...we would like to say thank you!

We found some comments meaningful and a new update has been posted on our site which adds the following features:
    1. InboxTone's play volume is now linked to the active sound profile's Notification volume in the Settings utility on WM SmartPhone's like the Q. Tone volume is now independent of overall system volume.
    2. WMA sound files are also supported. Some device manufacturers choose to format default ringtones as WAV, while others choose to format them as WMA types. InboxTones now supports both WAV and WMA, in addition to MP3 and MID.
This update can be installed over your current version. Enjoy!

Thanks, I'll try it out. It sounds promising.

I'm wondering if there's anything you can do though to troubleshoot my "repeating tone" issue and my inability to access the "Alert-Instant Messenger" sound file that another poster here is able to access.

Can't reproduce your repeating "beep" issue (except when a bunch of new messages arrive of course). But if you download and install the most recent version of InboxTones from our site, you should see all of your "Alert" tones magically appear. We explained why, if you had read our post.

Ah ha, so this update does bring "Alert" tones into the fold--I hadn't realized that the reason I couldn't see them were because they were WMA files. (I assumed they were WAVs instead of something else, I wasn't intentionally trying to be obtuse :) ) Thanks for the added compatibility, this feature comes much appreciated.

    re: repeated beeping
Hmm... I'll have to try to see if I can duplicate this in a controlled circumstance. I'll let you know if I can get anywhere with this.

Im a Qnoob, I think this is like only my second or third post, ...that being said, I total LOVED the idea of this program and eagerly downloaded it!

The only problem is, I recieve emails from individuals sent groups, email forums...and I wanted to have different notifications from different groups. What happens though is that since individuals on the list send email TO the Group list email address and Im CC'd on that list, it comes in as 'from: anyperson@anywhere.com TO listthatIneedtoknowabout@yahoo.com. Meaning, I cant set up listthatIneedtoknowabout@yahoo.com as sender, so I dont have a way to get notification for that group.

But, I am a very new noob, so maybe I just missed something in set up, please be easy on me if I did....

I also do ebay and was hoping to set up notification of a payment to Paypal. but again the problem is similar...people email paypal who then kinda 'cc's' you about payment received...

im SO hoping there is a workaround for these, those were my main uses for the program and Im not sure Im going to purchase if they dont work for me...:frown:

You are talking about a "wildcard" Sender. You want to assign a certain sound to the Sender anyone@playatoneforthisguy.com. Yes, we are in the process of adding this feature. It will be out shortly.

    Group Sender support:

Good news! The version that's been available on our site and our resellers for the last week already has this capability. So, if you installed InboxTones within the last week, your version has this feature included. You can assign a sound to groups of Senders by adding a Sender in this format:

@yahoo.com [when InboxTones sees a message from any Sender at the domain yahoo.com, it will play the assigned sound.

accountingdept@ [when InboxTones sees a message from any Sender with "accountingdept" in front of the @ symbol, it will play the assigned sound.

Don't forget to include the @ symbol either before or after the group ID text.

    Please continue to enjoy InboxTones.

Thanks for the update! Everything is working just great for my phone.
I had a very, very slight echo even after turning off the system sounds. Didn't bother me, really. I think I kind-of miss it really. LOL
Only thing I had to change was my mo-in-laws ring tone. My husband thought it needed changed from the Dracula one. Looking for something along the lines of a "princess" tune. Any ideas?
    Great product!! Thanks, again.

Don't know about any echo, definitely not related to InboxTones for sure. Thanks for the kind words and support!

We expect to release an update to an existing application and another nifty new application shortly which will both support the Q. Stay tuned....

    Hi!, Im back...

Actually that fix didnt quite do what I was hoping, and now that I look at it, its probably cuz I didnt explain my problem the best way I could...so Im gonna try again, and see if there isnt a fix for this..Im very optimistic though!

Im a moderator for two yahoo groups, and as such I need to know when messages come into the group. The messages aren't sent to me, but rather directly TO the yahoo.group.com address. And there are over 200 members, so I cant set a tone for each member. But I DO want to know when ANYone posts to the group.

Inbox tones worked for me where I wanted to know if one specific person wrote in....which is great since I have a couple people 'on probation', and I can go check their posts immediately when I know they come in.

But what I really need is a tone that says Im getting a message from that PARTICULAR yahoo group, since I have about 10 others that Im just a member of as well.....

And what happens is that the mail all comes in as FROM anyrandomsender@anyrandomcarrier.com......TO: funfun@yahoogroups.com. So its not actually sent FROM the group but rather, people are emailing inTO the group, and Im CC'd somehow ....?

So I hope that makes it a little clearer what Im looking for? FWIW, Im using gmail with activesync/mobipush.

Any help you can provide with this would be highly appreciated! I LOVE this forum, it totally rocks! :)
