I just hate to think that I have discoverable evidence in this corrupted state that I might be wiping away. I guess in the end, I'm the consumer, not the QA specialist, and I should just wipe clean and post back in a couple weeks when it happens again.

Would it be useful to have a "my imap gmail stopped working" polling application? Something that would allow anyone to post the time and circumstances that gmail stops sending to help determine whether this is a gmail thing or a coincidence?

Speaking of giving up.. So I've got two Outlook accounts registered for gmail (gmail and gmail2). The first one is the one that's been in the dreaded send-fail-state described above, and the 2nd one was new (with all identical params). While the first continued to fail, the 2nd one worked like a new gmail on imap is expected to work: perfectly! But then just 1 short day later (and no more than maybe 2 sends), it, too, suddenly failed sending!

    Arrrghh!

In terms of gathering scattered evidence.. what I first noticed that failed was a ReplyAll on a google groups address that is the default ReplyTo. So it was a reply-all on a single address.. shouldn't cause a lick-bit-o-difference, but that's the report from my end. Back to you, PhL0at.

    same for me

I'm having the same problem on my just purchased Q9C with WM6.1 pre-installed. On my old Q hotmail worked fine but when i went to set it up on the Q9C it sends me into the effing web browser to login to mobile.live.com to read my email - lame! Microsoft this is your OS so let us use your email client on our phones - without going through the damn browser!

So anyway I started a new gmail & set it up but now I can't send. Same exact problem as the thread starter. I've tried adding & deleting, switching to pop, letting it auto setup, etc but i just can't send! Suckyness.

Yeah I set it up Imap manually following those instructions and I still get the same problem. I've I just reset the phone and account and was able to send out a simple test message. But when i try to reply and send a larger message i get the "verify you have network coverage..." error again. It almost seems like there's some kind of size limit and that anything over a couple kilobytes have problems.

Also i have set up the account using the auto settings and manually using POP and get the same error. Frustrating that hotmail doesn't work at all and gmail is broken. I really can't stand using the browser as an email client.

I can't understand why it works for some and not for others.

Size limit reminds me of something I wanted to try once. Would anyone volunteer his/her inbox and "folder" (label) count sizes? Maybe there's a trend in how much "sync data" has to flow?
I am sync'ing only my inbox, 3 days worth at a time, and I have 1377 of 3520 unread and ~35 labels. My 3 days worth usu has about 3-12 read and unread.

Yeah I was able to get mine to send some short test messages again now. I definitely think it's something to do with the size of the messages. It doesn't like anything more than 2 or 3 k from what i can see. I also experimented with the "sending" menu in the account options. I thought it may be something to do with "attach a copy of original message" confusing the gmail threading but it seems the same either turned on or off.

Another factor could be the SSL port options that are required to get IMAP gmail to work in Outlook. There are no options for these in the Q. Ugh, comeon Google help us out here!

I started having this same problem starting last Friday. The only thing I can determine is that gmail has a problem with msg size, as stated earlier, and/or attachments. I have 2 gmail accts set up on my phone. One as POP and the other as IMAP. Both accts were giving me the same error when sending. On both accts, I tried sending emails with and without attachments. Those with attachments failed 100%. Those w/o went through fine. Not sure if there is a work-around, but at least I have a bit of a clue.

    Update:
The message size may not totally be the problem. I had trouble sending again yesterday. I had replied to several msgs with no problem. Then all of a sudden, I get that error again. Since none of my msgs are that big or have attachments, I am extremely puzzled. I leave the msgs in my outbox. This time I go to my task manager, and I see "Roadrunner", my email acct in the list. I kill the task and wait 15 minutes. Checked my outbox. The messages were sent. So far today, I've been sending and receiving with no problems without having to kill the task.

    Working again

Well my gmail seems to be working fine on my phone again using IMAP. The only thing still not right is that nothing shows up in the sent folder. Fortunately sent folder shows everything sent from my phone fine using Outlook 2007 with gmail IMAP setup.

What seems to have cured the problem is to set "message download limit" to 2KB in the "download size settings". This will cut off a majority of my emails but i can always request to download the whole message. For whatever reason gmail seems to send find only when i have it set to 2k. I also have "download attachments" set to 50kb and format set to html.

Hope this helps. I'm really happy with my new Q9C with 6.1 installed. I even found out that I can use internet sharing on my device to surf on the go. I guess it's because i'm on the Sprint employee plan... hehe I'm getting what verizon subscribers would pay $170 a month for less than a third of that :laugh2:

well, today I "clogged" sending by a ReplyAll with multiple (~8) recipients, but the quoted body of the reply may have exceeded some value.. My rec'v is at unlimited, attachments only less than 250KB.

I'd like to continue keeping this thread updated with clues and experiences, if I may propose it, but have started a new thread specifically to encourage someone to build a work around.

Interesting self-healing issue happened today: I laid a fingers-of-furry down on a few emails back-to-back as well as deleting as I read and sent, and at one point, that annoying "Email could not be sent" message bleeped up and disappeared. Seems my outlook was repeatedly logging on for every operation, and at least once it failed to send but on a subsequent time, it caught up properly.. odd.

    Fighting this phone

:laugh2: Wow! Who would have thought just deleting & setting up the account in the phone with all the exact same settings would allow me to send emails again.
See you if a few days when it stops working again.
This does not seem like a good union between gmail - GCalender - Gmail contacts and Microsoft/Motorola
Can't wait for an I Phone!
I was better off with a Itouch
  16. Its an imap/ pop3 issue.
Good luck with the iphone...bye bye.:tounge:

Happened again today..... has anyone contacted google to see if they have any kind of limits on sending? today after it happened, i went in and deleted the "trail" of old replies you sometimes get with a back and forth chat via e-mail and it worked fine.... it all seems hit and miss though, and the problem doesnt come up every time, so its frustrating to attempt to pinpoint the problem.....

My moto q9h is like 6months old now.. i had no problems sending or recving mails with gmail account.. It all started few days ago when sending mails wont work... it will say "either network failure or check if all are correct"... tried everything from this thread and does not seem to work. atlast i deleted and recreated the account as per google and it worked for 2 days then again i got the same problem.

I am wondering if this is problem with IMAP or SMTP. SMTP is the outgoing mail server right... so shouldn't we focus on SMTP address.

incoming is imap.gmail.com, outgoing is smpt.gmail.com, username is your entire gmail addy like xxxxx@gmail.com, password is your password. the email addy you first put in is g@g. check off every box, even the ones in advanced settings. i did notice after it is set up, your password is longer then what you type in. it most add something to it. i've been using this for a while now and never had an issue.
