HTC Ozone Hacks Thread Greetings everyone! I just wanted to say hello and that I'm excited to be the proud new owner of an Ozone from Verizon Wireless. Yeehaw! I also have an Omnia, but I missed the keyboard so I'm on board with the Ozone. I guess I have a thing for "O" phones. Anyway, I've been a regular member on other PocketPC and WM message boards and this seems to be the first (and best) place for an Ozone forum. I'm anxious to get started on customizing this phone so I'd like to propose starting a dedicated thread for Ozone Hacks. To start I'm going to begin slowly testing some of the MotoQ registry hacks on the Ozone. In order to make changes to the Registry, you will need a utility such as: a.) Mobile Registry Editor (Run this from your PC) MRE Note: If you receive an "access denied" error when making changes to the registry, try AEConfig to unlock your Ozone. Make sure to follow the instructions! You do not need Ozone-specific instructions. MRE Note2: If the AEConfig download link is unavailable on the previously mentioned page, you can also find it here. - or - b.) PHM Registry Editor (Run this from your Ozone) PHM Note: You will need either the "Smartphone 2002,2003 (ARM/PXA)," or the "Desktop Installer" version. - or - c.) Resco Explorer with the Registry Add-In (Run this from your Ozone) ^ I personally recommend this one. Resco Note: You will need the Smartphone version of Resco Explorer. - or - d.) Total Commander. (Run this from your Ozone) --^instructions modified for Ozone from tj!2k6's MotoQ hack thread. I have not tested all of these methods personally. If anyone has any other known hacks please post them here. Updates: Success! I know it's a simple one, but it's a start. Custom Alerts (Alarms, Texts, Emails, etc.) Copy mp3 files to: Device/Application Data/Sounds Disable "SMS Sent" Notification HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings SMSNoSentMsg = 1 (default: 0) Hide Start Menu Labels (adapted from mad3963's MotoQ hack) HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Shell\StartMenu Add New String Value Name "hide_labels" Set Value "1" Results: Notice the name of the selection is in the taskbar at the top. Note: This only effects the full Start Menu, not recently used. Start Menu Sorted Alphabetically (from apperrault's MotoQ hack) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell\StartMenuOpen the item called "Order" Delete everything except Active Sync.lnk Start Menu List View (from larsdennert's MotoQ hack) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\StartMenu GridView DWORD Value = 1 (for Grid View) GridView DWORD Value = 0 (for List View)
if you get a few together we can make a sticky thread for a list of the hacks that work also, you might want to check out the Q hacks and see if any of those work...very good chance they might
Seems like the majority of the Q hacks still work on my Touch Pro, so odds are they will for the Ozone too
I'm sure they do, and I know these seems a little redundant, but I figured it would be nice for new users who haven't dealt with a lot of smartphones and may not realize that, to be able to find it here. Does that make sense, or am I just making more work?
no its fine i think Ozone Users probably wont head to a Forum labeled Q Hacks, or any Q related Forum unless needed... so i have no problem with there being one here in the HTC Ozone Forum
That was my thinking also. And some of them may not work. So it's a little methodical, but hopefully helpful. And credit will always be given.
and there are going to be some hacks that are different due to the fact that the hardware is different. i.e. the threshold hack that people have used on the Q9 series wouldn't work well on the Snap/ Ozone because it has a faster processor than the Q did
new member and new to all the hacking stuff... glad i found this thread! just an FYI, I am on my second Ozone already... got it on the 10th and on the 17th the hangup/power button stopped working! oh well, just checking in so i can follow this thread later. bring on the hack info!
Welcome! Thanks for stopping by. Hopefully this thread will grow. I'm sure that most of the MotoQ hacks will work on the Ozone, but I wanted to make sure we had a list of confirmed hacks. I've already had to modify a couple because the registry paths were different. I'm also relatively new to this forum, but I've been using and hacking WM devices for years.
MadJester, thank you! the regedit worked perfectly and no more notification when i send a text message. Is there a hack to remove the beep when i place a call? Thanks again, Jeff --- update --- got the place call beep removed! HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Cal lStart and replaced the "InitVol" to 0
anyway someone can compile the Q hacks into this thread? I have no clue which ones work, or are useful. Thanks
You're welcome. This is great. I will this to the first post and give credit. Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with this. I actually gave my Ozone to my girlfriend to use because she prefers Qwerty phones to touch screen. Now I'm using the Omnia. Most of the Q hacks should work. I know that I've had to modify a couple. Mostly just the registry path. Right now I'm working on trying to fix the random buzzing problem. Since I'm back using the Ozone, I'll also see if I can try out some more hacks and post them. If anyone does post ones that work I will add them to the first post with credits. Thanks.
Remove HTC Lock screen To remove the HTC lock sceeen, overwrite the file HTC_US_LOCK.png (in \Windows) with the one attached here. It is just a blank and transparent 320x240 PNG file. Then reboot. You may want to save original HTC_US_LOCK.png to alternate location if you ever want to go back to it. Yes, there really is a file attached below.
HTC Ozone assessories I bought an HTC Ozone, wasn't real thrilled with it and so I traded it in for a Blackberry. I had it for about a week. Before trading it in, I bought a car charger, a carrying case and an extra battery. If anyone would like to buy these deeply discounted, email me at timesup444@yahoo.com. Thanks! Kim
where?? I'd love to go to this marketplace, but i don't see anything called that. where might that be?
I've done this hack a couple times, and was happy to hear the beep go away...until I restarted the phone. It seems I can't get this one to "stick" after a restart. Am I the only one?
Need help with this one I can't seem to make this one work. I've tried overwriting the file from the phone and my computer but it keeps saying I don't have permission. How do you get around this?
