    "HARD RESET" -- what should I know?

    So my Q keeps giving me problem, after problem after problem.

    I think I just wanted to do a hard reset, and wipe it out and start from scratch.

    I don't want to lose all my contact numbers, or my photos, etc.

    How do I save these things (esp. my contacts!) to my computer?

    it's called a Master Reset, numerous threads about this... the contacts are located in a file in the root called pim.vol, copy this to a sub-directory on the Q and from there to your pc, this file also contains the calendar entries. copying music and what not should be easy enough..

    you could save to a storage card. you can also sync your contacts to yahoo, if you use that, or your personal email.

    or you could just sync with outlook (if you have it)
    or you could use Sprite Backup

    And don't forget about your web favorites. I was forced into a Hard reset this morning, and that's the one thing I had forgotten about.

    how would Sprite do any good if it's a messy install you are backing up, or can you selectively restore ? (as you can tell it's been quite a while since i messed with Sprite :}

    my guess is for Yahoo you need that Yahoo Go!... you could also look into Jeyo Companion to save your contacts, and even your sms history. (you will need Active Sync for that)

    once you have copied the pim.vol over to a SD how you get it back. I did that after a MR and i renamed the pim.vol on the root to pim1.vol and copied and pasted the original back to root, rebooted and phone wouldnt come up. then pulled battery twice, came up with error cant find, contacts,oulook,settings file. So my question is how do you get the saved PIM back on root and work.

    why rename a empty pim.vol file? have you tried just overwriting the empty one with the one from your card instead?

    Because its in use, and will not let you overwrite it, its not empty, it can be renamed but cant be deleted.

    Good question, i had to do this as well, got an error and had to do another master reset...but the problem was i didnt copy from my storage card, just moved it and attempted to copy over the empty pim.vol file...thats what gave me an error, so in attempting to restore from a master reset, i caused another one, and lost all my contacts, Oh the joys of owning a Q:2cool:

    well after many times of trying things, i hooked up phone with usb to pc, took my saved pim (from sd card) opened up MAS,then explore ,mobile device, copied my saved pim (from sd card) then went to root and pasted it there, it said do i want to overwrite bla bla bla. I choose yes, popped out the battery and turned phone back on, worked, have my old contacts back now. Man i was dreading having to enter those back in manually.
