Hack to get rid of pmsnserver.exe

Using the free MortScript tool I have a script that kills the pmsnserver.exe process automatically without hacking the registry.

    MortScript can be found HERE.

The script (change 1000 to whatever you like, 1000=1 second). Using notepad or whatever text editor you choose copy and paste the following and save it as KillMSN.mscr or any name you like as long as it ends in .mscr

    While ( TRUE )
    Kill( "pmsnserver.exe" )
    Sleep( 1000 )
    EndWhile

Copy the file to your device and place it in the Startup Items folder if you want it to run when you turn on your phone. Otherwise to run it manually you can place it in My Documents/Scripts or wherever you want.

When you run the script it won't look like it does anything but if you look in the task manager you'll see 'mortscript.exe' running.

Yes, you're basically replacing one running application for another but MortScript is very light weight and is only looking to do one thing, kill pmsnserver.exe

Install it or not, it's up to you... I like it so far and it's nice knowing all I have to do to end it is kill the task instead of hacking the registry.

Curious what the folks that use it will think... so far I haven't noticed it running at all and it checks every second. I guess if you wanted to you could set it for something less often but as of right now I see no reason to.

For me, not a dang thing... I don't think anyone knows for sure, but it's the general consensus that it's used for Pocket MSN services.

There is a registry edit that accomplishes the same goal? Anyone have a link to that?

Basically you search for all instances of pmsnshared.dll and delete one 'l' from .dll so it reads .dl, not a very good reg hack if you ask me.

That's how I did it originally but didn't like the way it worked. Wouldn't that leave a process open to try and locate pmsnshared.dll?

Both ways work one way or another.

You don't have to power cycle to run it, just go to the .exe file and select it. Check your task manager and you should see mortscript.exe running.

I don't know how, but I don't see why not.

Still using it though and still working great. I combined this with the script to kill the charge complete notification also. 2 birds, one stone so to speak.
