here's how to have wifi start when using gmaps. install gprofile. run google maps and then run the gprofile config app. create a new program based profile and pick googlemaps as the activating app. then configure the profile to start wifi for you when gm is in foreground. if your gps chip is slow you can get a fast accurate fix in town. when you switch away from gm the profile should go back to default turning off wifi.

the saga has a slow booting gps chip compared to the htcs. it usually takes a minute for the first boot of the day. i notice that the chip boots faster with wifi on in gm. i wonder if gm injects boot data back into the chip using what it learns from wifi about where you are? a simple AT command like quickgps could do this. it seems to aquire satellites faster (takes 15sec) and go from using wifi to gps.
