GC Java Pack 1.2.2 (Fixed Opera Mini & Gmail)

This is a .cab file that installs Esmertec JBED, Opera Mini, and Google's Java gmail client on your handset. I have tested it and it works perfectly!

This cab will put shortcuts for Opera, Gmail, and JBED in your start menu, and will also REMOVE opera's annoying confirmation screens.

This is an amazing setup. Although Gmail's font makes the gmail app almost useless on the Motorola Q.

    Check it out:

If you go to the first link, you can download the version with both Opera and the Gmail client or just Opera. Both download links work there.

Update: Works fine. I just uninstalled the old stuff and opened the cab file. Posting from the Opera installation right now.

    Awesome!

Like I said, other than Gmail being impossible to read on the Q ... it's a really good collection of files. Opera is actually not annoying anymore with the connection confirmation screens removed.

Does installing JBed enable the play of .jar files? And if so is it possible to use the cab to install just that and not Gmail or Opera?

Yes, although I have never had any luck with games. They install and begin to run, but then cut out. Maybe I'm just picking the wrong games. :laugh2:

As for just installing JBed, if you run either cab download and install the set, you can easily remove Opera and/or Gmail by, in JBed, pressing the right soft button and hitting "Uninstall All."

Then all you have is JBed! Also, you will probably have to remove the shortcuts in the start menu as well, since JBed doesn't handle that.

Hmmm ... very odd. I installed the one with Gmail and Opera Mini and it replaced my previous version and got rid of the annoying start-up screen.

The problem I've noticed now is that now the page scroll buttons (2, 4, 6, 8) now scroll very fast and automatically. It's now a hinderance to scroll through the page. The page up/down feature was one of the things I liked best about Opera Mini. Now mine isn't working correctly. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the older version with no success.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

Not having any problems like that. I've been using the D-pad and it works perfectly.

So I have a gap between the the bar at the bottom of the screen (where start is) and where the Java pages show. Any ideas?

Yeah, that bar at the bottom covers up half the options so you cannot see gmail commands such as delete, etc. How to fix? Anyone able to get the font in gmail fixed for easier reading?

In the time since my last post I figured out how to use IMAP with gmail and utilize the home screen email for gmail. So far, this is how I think I want it. Before when I just accepted that my phone knew what to do, it was like my phone gmail and my laptop gmail were 2 different entities. On one, an email would have been read, responded to and deleted, yet on the other device it was there as if I had never even opened it up. This new WM phone of mine is so much different than the BlackBerry I came from...

    One More thing...

So how do you keep gmail "conversations" together? My laptop gmail inbox has the conversation all grouped in one listing, yet my phone ONLY shows original messages. If my wife is at home and replies to an email for me, I wouldn't know it since on my phone there is only the original message. I have all the check boxes checked in the account settings on my phone (as specified by all the sites that show you how to set up imap gmail on our phone.)
    Thanks
