    Flex Mail 4 Beta

WEBIS just sent an email that there is a new Beta that is suposed to improve functionality. I am on my Q (& driving) so I can't search for my other Flexmail thread. but thought folks would want to know.

yeah, it loads all your folders. you just have to leave it running... but after that, it's way faster & less buggy than before (so far)

the thread strongly suggests device only for the app. they say you can store the data on the card, but i haven't yet found that option.

probably Scott's issue.... he installs everything on the card.

sulster: are previous issues you had resolved ?

I'm currently on vacation and we are driving from the Grand Canyon to Colorado and as I now have a signal at last I was browsing Everything Q of course to see what I missed and I've been reading this thread about flexmail.

Can anyone summarize the benefits of using Flexmail over the built in mail app.

    yea thats probably it
i might give it ago again on the phone itself
    but its a 3mb program!

real time send so no need to send/receive after each email
can setup send/receive times at any interval
and not to mention HTML email (for wm5 users)

Thanks for the info Scott. So can the send/recieve be setup to be more frequent than the 15 minutes from the default email client?

I guess the only downside is that from what I've read it's slower than the default mail client?

And the interface is a lot better. Columns (single or multiple)

Folders show on the interface, too so don't have to go into Menu

can choose which email address to reply from in each email

latest verion has cool slide type graphics

the problem isn't that the program itself is slow (e.g. sending email is just as fast, etc) it's that at certain times before the rebild the thing would just practically stop.

now, it's VERY slow to load (but I have probably 300-400 folders/subfolders) AND I have seen some lag when changing account settings, but this version is *useable* to me. Espcially since I can afford to leave the app running with my new 3200 mAh battery! :)

I am sure there are other features but these ar the ones off the top of my head.

it is better! So far I like! I still need to figure out the hotmail and somehow I must have my yahoo out settings wrong. And i haven't checked out the hs plugin yet...soon! How do you do a manual send/receive for activesync/outlook mail?

you can set it to whatever you want
1 min to 1 hr and above

i still find it whoafully slow:frown:
even if i hit the homekey and leave it running...so slow to bring it back

i saw that a couple of times, too. i wonder if ET is closing it like it closes tmail when you go back to homescreen?

i noticed that i didn't have ET checked as system default so i checked it in ET. i thought i already had that checked, so i wonder if FM 'unchecked' ET when i told FM to be he systm default.

i am pretty sure that random unloading of FM when going back to homescreen hasn't hapened since i told ETto be systm default again...

Even though the HTML mail is nice I'm not sure it's a keeper yet.

3MB device space...that hurts my already lacking space!

Slow startup..it is pretty slow to get rolling and doesn't seem to stay running in the background very long.

HS plugin...doesn't show all the accounts and isn't modifiable. If I keep using my original for a message count it doesn't zero out after I've read the mail via FM of course.

Media attachments (.wmv)..can't play them or at least figure it out! Right now it downloads the "shell" of it but thats it.

Hotmail..I have Windows Live running great and had to enable PocketMSN at the same time for FM to see it. For some reason I can't delete Hotmail emails through FM...weird!

Outlook..can't do a manual send/receive like you can in the default mail client. I don't push my work mail on the weekend so if I decide to check that I need to via the default client.

So it's kinda like using ET as "front" for sms only 10x worse. In ET sometimes I have to use the default client to click on a long link. With FM I'd have to still use the default client for most of the above things! Unless I'm really missing something here! I will keep it till it expires though and maybe figure out some of these quirks...
