    Finally hit that limit.

Well about a week ago my Q started telling me I didnt have the correct logon information when I tried to access the internet and today I called in to fix it, and they told me my data had been shut off because of overuse.

They asked me if I tethered and of course I told them I havent. ;)

But its working now and I'll just have to be more careful about my data use.

I remember that would happen to me on my vzw 9c.I never called though, just soft reset and connection was restored and I was never billed.

Oops! I lose track of where I am when reading 'new posts' on my phone. Will have to pay more attention in the future. Being on USCC myself I am now really curious where the OP hit the limit.

They told me the limit was 5 gb but never told me exactly how much data I had used. They also liberally said that tethering was not allowed, and I just told them I use the mobile browser a lot.

but the carrier "owns" the data and you pay for the privilege of using it. so according to the terms of service that you sign, they can tell you how you can use it. and generally you don't pay for all of the retail cost of a phone anyway. the carrier does (subsidizing it when you sign the contract)

Yeah, I don't really care how the contract works, when I pay for unlimited service they better not tell me I used too much data because I tethered it. If they don't want you to tether the phone because you'll use too much data, then they should find a new description for their unlimited data plan. I'd tell them to take a hike. I'm so fed up with USCC and they weren't half as bad as Verizon was.

do you think I should cut back? If my data gets cut off again do you think they will still buy the story about using the browser a lot?

you are tethering for free... so umm unless you want to pay for that service plus they may prorate the usage... I would be more carefull

If you pay USCC the $15/month for tethering the overage charge for going over 5GB is 50 cents/MB. Yes, you read that right. $500/GB. I will stay with the free non-existent (when I bought my Q1 they said tethering was impossible) tethering plan.
