    Don't get a Saga.

These forums seem to be quiet. I just wanted to say that I have reactivated my trusty old 700wx after using a Saga for only about 48 hours. It's probably one of the worst phone's I've owned.

I can put up with quirks and issues and happy to use workarounds for different things but I absolutely will not put up with garbage reception, dropped calls, and dropped data connections. My saga (which has the updated ROM) routinely and randomly dropped the connection, switched to 1x for no reason, and stopped syncing my email. This is most unacceptable. If I were Verizon or Samsung I'd be ashamed of this product.

I'd have the phone, put it in my pocket, take it out after anywhere from 5 mins to 5 hours and find it disconnected with my last sync having occurred a long time ago. It also seemed to fluctuate randomly reception wise.

So, I usually research my phone purchases heavily but didn't on this one. If you're looking for a phone skip the Saga. It's pure garbage. I must say it's going to take a lot to convince me to get another Samsung product (remember with the i760 was pulled for network issues).

It was the latest ROM update that has been causing it's issues. Many here had flawlessly working devices before the update

I appreciate the reply, I am just so frustrated. I just can't believe that Samsung/Verizon would sign off on such a disgrace of a product.

Is there any way I can downgrade the ROM?

I love my Saga....but do agree the update did throw a few flaws at it. Still though its a way better phone than my Q9c!

Thanks for the reply. So is your Saga reasonably stable in terms of its connection/reception?

My biggest problem is, it'll connect and then sync to exchange. I'll use it, then put it in my pocket. Anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours later, I'll pull it back out find it disconnected and that it hasn't sync'd for a long while, which means no email. Also, when the phone is in front of me it'll bounce back and forth from nothing to 1x to EV constantly. Is that not the case with your phone?

stable..yes. it only breaks when i've pushed it past its limits! i've been sitting at 10% left of memory/ram for long time with the 30-40 apps i got.

i do use exchange but its set to retrieve mail every hour and that works flawlessly... my other 3 email accounts (imap) are pushed and work splendid everytime.

reception sucks at my house but its no worse/better than other phones i've owned. the wife and kids lil flipper phones always have had better bars but thats the nature of that. as far as EV...same deal...no better/worse. at work i have great reception so the saga rocks along like it should.

Thanks, and you're running the updated firmware (CE07)?

I should add, my saga is FRESH...there is nothing installed beyond what came with the phone. At most opera and messaging is running.

It's certainly possible it's defective but I've read so many reports of instability after the update, some on this forum so I don't know what to think.

I just hard reset it again.

whenever i hard reset (after i blow it up trying something silly)...i reset it 2-3 times in a row just to make sure all the gremlims have left. someone here at EWM suggested that and it seems to help. also once i finally got to a nice stable setup i did a Sprite backup so when i try silly things i'm back to stable in 15 minutes!

oh jeez! anything over 3 hard resets breaks the internal arm processor banks resulting in a OOS OS! DON'T DO IT!!

    haha...too much coffee...just kidding! =)

Well you have my thanks for responding. I haven't gotten any responses anywhere. I don't know if the hard resets have done anything and I'm a bit wary to reactivate it right now. I guess we'll see what happens.

I gotta tell ya. I have had my phone (latest firmware) for a couple months now and it is working flawlessly. It is truly the best phone I have ever had (aside from the Motorola V60s..What a phone!!)

The ONLY issue I ever had was the GPS acting a little wonky but 2 hard resets in a row and now it works great. I do not have any signal issues, dropped calls or lost data connections whatsoever but I live in Atlanta which is blanketed pretty heavy.

No issues with sync at all (Google Sync.) I have a rule setup in Gmail that forwards all email to my phone as a txt and I always receive the txt and the synced email at the same time.

I'm assuming that you have never seen/used one with the old ROM. Given what you're experiencing, it could be the ROM, or it could be that the combination of phone/tower/distance in your area has you in the fringe for reception? Remember that different phones have different reception strengths / capabilities.

I'd say the consensus is that the new ROM really didn't do any favors for the owners except adding GPS and depending on your opinions/locations, calling that a favor is questionable. The GPS stuff is very flaky and takes forever to lock, although there are threads detailing supposed fixes to that. It also drains the battery *fast*.

I also get some swwitches from EVDO to 1X at time, but for the most part it doesn't bother me because I really don't surf that much on my phone...usually just when killing time. Phone/email/text are my strongest use apps.

All that being said, it's a way better phone thatn any Motorola or Nokia I've ever had.

Maybe someday they'll release another updated ROM that might actually improve the unit.

    Appreciate the thoughts.

I have, indeed, never seen a saga without the upgraded rom. I REALLY like the form factor, optical mouse, and it seems to be fairly snappy.

I have been around these parts for a long time. It's a densely populated, well covered areas. In fact, I know that the closest tower is approximately .9 miles from my house (straight line). More importantly though, I've had Verizon forever and have put up with there locking down of features in the past (I remember when OBEX was just a dream and the v710 lawsuit that gave me a moto e815). I've had my 700wx for a long time now and as clunky as it is, it just works.

Like I said my biggest issue is coming back to the phone and finding out it disconnected itself from the data connection, which means no exchange. I rely on push email. I need to trust my phone and I had a lot of issues in just the 48 hours I used the phone. I am staring at it right now and it is a good looking phone but I am travelling tomorrow and the day after so I am loathe to activate it again and see what happens.
