To the best of my knowledge you still need an external bluetooth GPS receiver. You can pair that with the phone and then use Google Maps or Windows Live Search.

Like the new BB 8830 Verizon tends to disable the GPS functionality in their phones for the heck of it. Note that the Sprint 8830 has a perfectly functioning GPS. If Verizon can't sell Navizon they disable the aGPS in the phone.

    aGPS

I assume that you mean VZ Navigator, right? Regardless I don't think they disable aGPS -- that would likely break e911, which would be illegal.

But the bottom line is that there isn't a full GPS receiver in the Q.

Ah yea vz nav. Actually in the BB 8830 there is a firmware hook that checks to see if it's running on vzw and then disables the gps. The same phone running on Sprint has a fully functioning gps that works with googlemaps. It's quite an uproar on the bb forums.

Vzw is notorious for disabling features the manufacturers put in. Look at the original Moto specs on the razr and then look at the vzw one. Look at DUN tethering on the Q.

I'm getting the EMTAC mini-S3 SiRF III Bluetooth GPS Receiver (should be at my front door when I get home) how good is google maps? I'm thinking about just getting Tom Tom or Copilot Live but I can't decide.

google maps is good (and free)
but why not give microsoft live a try (free also)

double check with the tom tom or copilot threads to make sure they work with the Q
i thought they didnt...(could be wrong though)

From what I've read Copilot Live has a specific one for the Q. But I will give Microsoft Live a try for sure. Thanks!

I like MS Lice search. Keys to working with the GPS, set the timeout of the screen to none AND set system sounds to loud. This way it will stay on while navigating and 'beep' at you when a turn is upcoming.

Ok so I got my receiver and drove around the neighborhood and even took my girlfriend for ice cream and in my opinion Microsoft Live IS a lot better then Google Maps.

There is a menu option to recalculate the trip if you go the wrong way.

    Good stuff!

    CoPilot Q Version

You're certainly wrong about CoPilot Live. As Simon says (pun intended), they have a special CoPilot Live Q Edition.

Sex with lice? That's too kinky. :tounge:

Is it true that a Freudian slip is Austrian lingerie? :laugh2:
