You need to extract the contents of the .rar file to your PC using a utility such as WinRar and then follow the instructions in the .PDF file.

I finally got it to work yesterday. After talking to 4 different tech support people i thought it was hopeless. The last person i talked had me to keep trying the manual update (##***** or whatever the numbers were). For some reason when i was hitting send it was trying to make a call. But finally it gave me a prompt on my screen to enter the security code. Thanks for the responses BTW.

Sounds like you may have forgotten the "*" at the end of the #.

I checked and rechecked that number and it wasnt the problem. Anyways, its fixed now. Since this is an update thread maybe you can tell me. Which is a better way to connect to a laptop, PDANet or modem link? I've figured out PDAnet and i'm currently using it now, but I need to read up a little more on Modem Link before i try to connect. Is one faster than the other?

modem link is considerably faster but verizon had motorola add the modem link but at the same time change something that disables the ability to use it without paying verizon the $15/month extra fee for using the Q as a modem.

this is only a temporary set back and i am sure it will not be too long before we figure out how to get it back. i have gone thru alot of this with different phones over the years and the phone community always figures it out and usually very quickly.

A.) Did you download and install WinRar on your PC
B.) Did you extract the contents of the update .RAR file to your PC
C.) Did you read the .PDF that contains the instructions on how to perform the upgrade, which was included in the .RAR file

    Pete-

There should be 2 files that are unzipped.

Run the one that is a '.exe' file. This puts a Motorola software update icon on your desktop.

Run the Motorola Software Update program that you just installed on your desktop. When instructed, plug your Q into your computer.

    -Simpson

/This update is not necessary. It is OPTIONAL. If it causes you too much stress, I would recommend skipping it.

    ^ what he said.

Hold out until Motorola releases the official update on their site, I'm sure the install process will be simplified.
