    mp3 ringtone won't play

Recently downloaded some new mp3's, then copied them to the Sounds Folder. They play when I click on them on my PC, so the mp3 files are probably OK.

They do not play when assigning them to the ringtone, or the text notification etc on the Q.

They do not play if I assign them anyway, as the ringtone, and then call myself from another phone...just get a series of static-like clicks. Tried downloads from other sites (same tunes)...same problem.

If I go back to some other mp3's that have been on the Q for months, they play fine.

Have done reboots, and soft resets. No help, same problem. Really do not want to do a hard reset...I would loose all my speed-dial set-up (I use alot of speed dial numbers).

Don't put them in the sounds folder. The should be in the root directory, which is the first level directory. Do they show up and play in Windows Media Player? Check this just to make sure the mp3 itself is good...

I meant Windows media player on the phone. Want to check that it plays there. Are these "cut" up mp3s to play as ringtones or are they full songs? Either way, when you put the file onto the Q, don't put them into any folder. Store them right in the root directory of "my music". (This is the first level, without being put into a folder...sort of looks like an open door with two dots after it...)

They are cut up...I deleted some of the song to shorten it ...just need about 20 sec for the ringtone.

Not sure what you mean by "My Music" on the phone...I don't see that when exploring it through active sync...sorry if I sound lost , but I am!

When you have the pc connected to the phone via the usb cable, you should be able to click "explore". This should open areas where to store music. Do not put the sound in a folder. (Don't click to open the folder...just put it in the first level directory...)I am not at my pc now, and I don't have as much expertise on this as some others do. Try putting the sound in this way.......I know I put my full mp3s on my storage card and use Vito ringtone editor to cut it to a ringtone directly on the phone. Other ringtones are just put in the phone "loose". (I put them in no directory folder...when you go to the phones file manager, they are in the first screen you pull up). Try this, and if you are still having problems, I'll get to the pc in the morning. (It is 1:20 am my time...)

I don't really explore very often via Active Sync because I just use the Mini SDcard for all transferring from my PC to my Q... but I'm pretty certain that if you were to put those MP3s into 'My Documents' folder on your Q, they will show up when trying to assign ringtones.

So as Sheri is basically mentioning.... in Active Sync press 'explore'..... then 'My Documents'...... and just place them loose in there (not into a subfolder)
