Q, Verizon, GPS, Google MAPs, Windows Live

I really love my new Q. Is GPS disabled on Verizon's version. I know they made Google maps not work and replaced it with Live Search. Traffic works - but suppose I'm not in my home area - Why can't I press something like "find me using GPS and show me traffic with a map centered on my present position". It's frustrating not being able to do such an obviously useful function when the technology is also obviously available now. Am I missing something??? Any comments appreciated!

no monthly fee...only your data plan fee for using data to retrieve the map info

GPS apparently enabled for ATT, but not Verizon

So, coincidently, I'm looking at the New York Times today - and what do I see? A picture of a phone that looks identical to my Moto Q, but from ATT (mine is from Verizon):

"Introducing MOTO Q Global, one of AT&T's fastest 3G smart devices. Equipped with GPS, Windows Mobile 6, ......, Access turn-by-turn GPS navigation, ...., "

Reading this, I conclude that my Verizon Moto Q is simply intentionally crippled. I have no intention of switching carriers, but I am a bit peeved with Verizon about this!

They aren't exactly lying, but they're not being very truthful, either. The GPS in my Q from ATT is just as crippled. This is one of the areas where the BlackJackII that I had for 3 days first was superior. The GPS in it worked just fine right out of the box. Google Maps' "My Location" worked just fine, no tweaking needed. All I can get from it with the Q though is "Your location is temporarily unavailable.". Yeah, "temporary" as in "until you cough up some more money either for the TelNav subscription or an external receiver."

    integrated GPS, my @$$...

    Sprint Q 9C

The Sprint Q 9C GPS works great with google maps right out of the box. Sprint also offers sprint navigation as part of its data plan which gives you turn by turn voice directions. It is fantastic! No external GPS, no pairing through the COM1 port...nothing. My Sprint Q has all this built right in and it doesn't disable it like Verizon.

Not much of a fan of verizon phones... almost feel I don't have a choice, because friends and family are verzion. Only thing is they don't care what phone they use, just as long as they have one. I....like sophistication...:D And Verizon is way behind in that era....

vzw has always been behind in the snazzy phone dept.

i guess they focus on other things. Before I had my Q i had just regular phones. Reception has always been better. I can get signals where others cant.
