this will not work for an original Q as the original Q does not have gps
however this might work for the Q9c if we can figure it out...i posted at PPC Geeks last night seeing if there was a Q9 fix coming..
didnt sound promising but member who created this hack said that he might get to it

We have some guys at HowardForums working on this since Christmas day. Look here and you will see when we have it working http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...1475223&page=2
Then I will repost here. You are right, the fix posted in the OP presently only works for TouchPro. We are emulating the GPS right now, and WLS or VZ Nav (with subscription) will work on Q9c,h,n. Thanks.

That is indeed good news. I know the WiFi was removed from the design for sure.
Looks to be true http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/p_f...864&fi=1934468
A Verizon spokesperson explained the GPS functions for the Storm when The Tech Herald was working over the phone. He commented that the GPS is stronger in the new OS version, and that Verizon has spent a lot of money upgrading the network to support not just VZ Navigator, its own GPS service, but to make third-party GPS offerings more accurate and to ensure they function well.
Thank goodness!

Verizon got tired of so many complaints, the rants from people like me, or just that they figure, people will Hack it anyway, so might as well.....
But this site states that Verizon is planning on Unlocking the GPS on the WinMo phones 1st half of 2009. I am always leary, so maybe this is just to get people to keep the phones past the 30 days......
Verizon has confirmed this through an e-mail to users that have campaigned for them to open up said feature in phones, the full text of which is below:
http://www.unwiredview.com/2008/12/1...ces-next-year/
Verizon Wireless, like all carriers, orders devices to meet certain specifications inclusive of features. Each of these specs is tested to determine if it meets our performance goals. There are instances when the phone will pass our extensive testing process but a specific feature may not meet the standard. We will often choose to introduce the phone without that feature but ask that the manufacturer come back to us with revised software that has to be tested to make sure the service works the same across our entire wireless footprint –from Maine to Hawaii. In the case of open standalone GPS, we are partnering with the Windows Mobile device manufacturers to provide a software upgrade that will add this capability to the existing assisted GPS capability. This is a complex development project to provide open standalone GPS while maintaining the assisted GPS capability with the level of performance and security that our customers expect. The recently introduced Windows Mobile devices including Omnia, Saga, and Touch Pro are targeted to add open standalone GPS in the 1st half of 2009.

So, Omnia, Saga, and Touch Pro owners should be the first to watch out for this software update to be made available. As well as owners of other Windows Mobile-powered and GPS-equipped handsets in Verizon’s line up.
