Motorola Q Hacks

I ordered my Q and I'm supposed to get it in the mail tomorrow. Is there anything I should know before I start it up? Also what's up with the Hacks? What are they? How do they work? I'm a moto q virgin and don't know the lingo or anything yet. Is there anyone that can send me info on stuff that I might need to know for when I get it tomorrow? It sounds like it's a complicated phone and I just wanna know how to work it a.s.a.p. Thank you

So I know some customers of mine have simply bought the Q for the PDA feature with a phone and do not want ANY data used on it.

I like the hack for making a password appear before going online however I also found a hack to totally stop MMS if you don't want to receive either.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings
MMSAvailable String change value to 0

This would not allow me to receive MMS since I have 20% of my customer only wanting the PDA and 0 MMS and such. Not many of US will need this since we message but just in case.

The solution you give me is for showing dialpad.jpg on the screen where you type the number you want to call. Not the solution for showing dialpad.jpg during a call. I have already done the above, it works - when I type in the number to call. Not otherwise. Not during a call.

Has anyone answered this question? I really want to know also. I like the homescreen setup that I have, but I would like to remove a few of the recent apps from the top of the screen. Is it possible? Is there a hack to do that? They are just sitting there mocking me because I don't know how to make them go away!!!! It's terrible! Terrible, I tell ya!

yes, you can get rid of what they call the MRU (Most Recently Used) icons. just edit the home screen.xml that you use. if you are not comfortable with editing the .xml email it to me and i will do it for you.

That doesn't work for me. I keep getting this message:

Instalation of regedit.Jup.ARM.CAB was unsuccessful. The installation file is not intended for this devce.

I get this for all of the "regedit" files that were included in the download. Any suggestions out there?

assuming you are talking about PHM Regedit, the .cab you need to copy ot the Q and execute is regedit.Stngr_ARM.CAB

I dont' see a .cab file listed on the PHM site. Am I missing something?

turn the phone off, and on again.. that is called a soft reset.

Then for some reason the SMSNoSentMsg isn't working.

I have it in |HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settin gs
a Value of SMSNoSentMsg value 1 (icon is sheet with "ab" on it)

The ab means you've created a String value; you probably need a DWord ("D") or Binary value.

The ASCII string "1" is not equal to the number 1.

I am fairly technical, but am having issues with a couple of hacks.

1: Sort Start Menu alphabetically (apperrault)

I do this, delete all entries except ActiveSync.ink, but they do not show up alphabetically. What am I missing?

Did you try turning the Q off and on as discussed on the previous page? As a general rule, if a hack doesn't work after applying it, soft reset the device.

2: Email: Mark All As Read / Delete All (bishop)

So, I have the zip file, unzipped to include _setup.xml, INBOXE~1.00 and INBOXM~1.001. What next? Copy them to my Q? Where?

I believe that is shipped as a CAB file, not a ZIP file. You do not want to unzip the files. You just copy the CAB file to your Q (anywhere is fine), then find the file on the Q in File Manager and run it. A CAB file is basically an installer, so there's no need to open it.
