Thank you! That's my point exactly. It's gonna take more than just a few, unsupported claims and flames to bring "wrath" to me. I am publicly calling out anyone who claims to have wifi. Let's see some hard proof. Gauntlet down. Step up or shut up.
I dug through all the info from the FCC number, as well as all of the technical information I could find on the hardware from motorola, etc. There is nothing. No solid evidence at all.
The closest I found was a block diagram for the ARM processor inside and it did show that it supported wifi interface to a secondary chip.
I've worked as a software engineer for the past 6 years doing embedded ARM boards with windows CE 4.x, 5.x, and a bit of 6--WM6 is a derivative of CE 5.x, so it's right up my alley. I was the software lead for several products based off of this design, and I got a lot of mentoring from the very sharp hardware engineers..
While designing several of the PBCs we were going to use, I've been there through the back-and-forth of deciding what should stay on a board design and what should go. The board(s) inside the q are very small. That makes any real estate on the board very expensive. You have to pick and choose what to include in the design and what to leave out. And on top of that, just putting it in the hardware isn't good enough. It takes a crazy amount of engineering and test time to get a feature like this working. We implemented wireless with CDMA on one of the products, and it took a lot of software development and debugging to ever get anything that worked. Is Motorola really going to do all of this for a feature they don't seem to want to support? They gave a very clear answer as noted above.
Now, I hate to say this, because I like this forum and the folks on it, but some of us seem to have something to hide. Not to name names, again, because people here seem cool, but I publicly called out everyone who claimed to have schematics to pony them up or admit that they know absolutely nothing.
I have yet to hear anyone who is not scared enough to hand over some hard evidence. If I had access to recent q 9h schematics, I could go to work to answering this question, and even if I can't decipher it, I've got several electrical engineers who might go over them for a six pack to see if they could hack wireless onto their phones.
So all you folks who claim to have schematics... Where are you? Step up.
No need to beat around the bush dude, I have them, and a few others on the forum do as well.
Yeah you pm'ed me, but without an email address....I suppose I could shoot em off into space, and maybe they might make it to your computer....
Guess I should have been a little more clear. Figured people might reason that theres really only one way to get people the schematics....
And I've been MIA because reading posts irritate me more than they used to, for various reasons. That, and I started a new job whereby I work about 65 hours+ a week.
I still read things from time to time, but I'm not on here like I used to be. My profile page has my AIM and my Skype name is the same if anyone needs to get a hold of me.
Not to mention the fact that these two glaring pieces of info are right in the text that he supposedly copied directly from Motorola...
"MOTO Q Global with Windows Mobile 6.1 Specifications"
"The MOTO Q Global with Windows Mobile 6.1 is designed to work on the... "
(btw, the second line is in his ad twice)
Wonder if it's a scam or he's just a serious idiot... :P
Sadly enough, someone will probably buy it...
Hey, no offense dude. Wasnt just one person or even just one forum. Sorry bout the email addr thing, but i figured if i didnt get a pm from at least some one, that nobody was listening. If you still feel like sending them my way, Ill pm you with an email or other way to send them.
None taken.
PM away, and you shall receive.
I don't doubt that there may be schematics out there that show wifi on it. What I am doubting is that it is the final version that made it into the AT&T's Q9h. Once you have the schematics, compare it to the internal photo's on the FCC website. There is one spot on the phone's board where a chip was planned for, but is not installed on the board.

i just called Motorola, and they confirmed it has Beam Sync, but NO WIFI...
Sorry!
why did this thread even get to the 2nd page?
