DVD | Convert to watch on MotoQ9h

Hello all,

Which is the quickest and easiest way to convert DVD movies to the best format compatible to watch on the MotoQ9H?

Software I have available:

• Any Video Professional
• DVD Decrypter
• DVD FAB
• DVD Shrink

I tried using DVD Shrink, but the output from that is multiple .VOB files. Just too many to handle etc etc...

What I would like is just one file of the main movie (to save spaces on the card) converted from DVD to the format best suited for the MotoQ9H.

I have two programs, although i should start using one. I have the DVD Fab Platinum version to download the movie onto the hard drive. It lets you select multiple things like the main movie, what audio you want it in, if you want subtitles, ect. Once i have the movie onto my hard drive, i use a program called Total Video Converter. I had to pay to use it (you can use the free trial), but it was worth it. It lets you download it in many formats, and you can even adjust settings such as frames/s and all that. i had to play with it for a while to see which format was the best, but i am happy with the 3gp video format, and switch in the same settings as MPEG4. Using MPEG4 format used used too much ram and ran really slow. the 3GP came out in oustanding quality (similar to the iPod Videos). I can copy whole movies onto my sd card, about 500 MB per movie. Like i said, im completely happy with it and if i can get a video up, i can show you.

Doesn't DVD Fab Platinum convert dvd directly to 3GP or MP4? I have the basic version and when I try to chose the option to convert to a specific format, I get a popup saying that the feature is available only in DVD FAB Platinum.

This should then change the two-step conversion that you mentioned to a one-step process.

Depending on the DVDs that you are trying to convert, you would also need an up to date decrypter (which is built into DVDFab Free & DVDFab Platinum)
so you probably would be better off buying DVDFab Platinum if you are looking for a one step process and you are comfortable with DVDFab.

But if free interests you more and two steps would be OK as long as it's free, then you can still use DVDFab to rip the movie to your harddrive and then use PocketDivxEncoder to convert to AVI by selecting all the VOBs from the VIDEO_TS folder or use AutoGK to convert to an Xvid MPG4 by selecting the IFO file (which will load all the VOB files), just make sure to set AutoGK output to 320 X 180 or so...

DVDFAB Platinum after just one run through has become my decrypter of choice. I will hang onto the other decrypters also for those DVDs that might not work through FabPlatinum.

Had a question on the format for MotoQ9H though:

• I used DVD FabPlatinum to convert directly to PSP format (mpeg4). I created the PSP named file M4V00002.mp4.
• I moved this file from my HD to the SD card.
• I played this file and WMP in my Q9H opened up and played the file. Great quality video and sound. But every 2mins or so, it becomes a bit stop&go for about 5 secs and then its normal for another 2mins or so.

Is this due to the format? Anything I can do to overcome this 'stop@go'?

TCPMP (freeware) is a far superior media player than WMP. The MPG4s play great on it, as well as virtually all other media files.

You will need tyhe AAC audio codec plugin though for the MPG4 playback. Make sure you install the AAC plugin into the TCPMP folder.

Thanks for that tip. This is my first smartphone/wm6 phone and still getting around to learning the good hacks etc.

1. Do I just delete the WMP from program files and then install TCPMP?
2. Do I then unzip the AAC plugin file and save it to the TCPMP folder?

You can leave WMP on your device since you probably need it to play the 3gp videos taken with your Q.

However, you can install the TCPMP CAB file onto your storage card, and then also do the same with the AAC plugin CAB file as well.
TCPMP file will be the tcpmp.smartphone.0.72RC1.cab
and the AAC plugin file is the aac.ARM_SP.CAB

Just double-check to make sure that the AAC plugin did in fact install into the TCPMP folder... it should automatically.

TCPMP, for some reason, could not, would not, did not install on the storage card. Install was successful on the Device though. The plugin also installed in the TCPMP directory.

Viewing:
Issues - It works fine in fullscreen mode. No sketchiness. No sound issues.
But when I view in the player window, I get a 'scratchy' band running vertically top to bottom. (Similar to the band seen on the old old reel movies, if that makes any sense!)

Anyone come across this when using TCPMP? Anything can be done to remove this vertical band?

it might...most likely. I haven't had anytime recently to play with the settings on the platinum version. so i have just been doing what i know works. as for the video my camera can't get a decent video capture of the video quality on the phone, but if you have seen a video on the iPod videos (not the Touch), it is the same. it occasionally skips frames, but not often. I can ignore it.
