Exclamation Bug in WM6.1 "multiple select"?

Today, I made a nasty discovery. I was trying to delete a few songs from my SD card to make room for a podcast. I was in file manager using the built-in multiple selection tool. When I said "done", the correct files were highlighted.

However, when I went to File > Delete, it deleted the wrong files. That is, one or two was from the list, but two or three others were just other random files from the directory I hadn't highlighted. One was an entire folder.

I tried again in a less destructive place...cleaning up old CAB files on the phone's internal memory. There was a directory of 7, and I made two dummy folders. I highlighted two of the CABs and one of the folders, and tried "File > Delete". It hosed both folders and 4 CAB files.

*faceslap*

Can you imagine if you accidentally erased My Pictures or My Documents in this manner? Is this only me?

Would like for someone else to help confirm this bug in Windows Mobile 6.1 (it certainly wasn't happening in 6...I used to do this all the time).

Thanks..

using file explorer i,
went to storage card
selected one folder containing flash stuff
selected two .cab's
selected one .exe

pressed done
menu delete
watched what folders it was deleting under its progress,
checked the storage card and everything that i did not check seems to be in tact

did your procedure differ?

No difference in procedure, mine just deletes the wrong files. And, sometimes, if I am in a folder, I go out, then go back in, the list of files will change, too.

Stuff that didn't used to be there will be there again, but I won't be able to open it.

I've tried a hard reset, still having these problems...

That's correct. There is someone else I work with who just got 6.1, and I was able to reproduce this problem on his phone as well. Made a bunch of dummy files... called 1.txt, 2.txt, etc up to 0.

Then I highlighted the odd ones (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) and deleted them.

When it was done, here's which files were still in the directory:
2, 3, 4, 7, 8

So not only did it fail to delete 3 and 7, it also deleted 6 and 8 without asking.

If I repeat it again with ten new dummy files, this time on the phone's storage and not the SD card, and it happened again. What's more, there seems to be no pattern.

Having been a Sprint customer since 2001, I know better than to waste my time calling them about it. How does one deal directly with the Windows Mobile folks?

Is this happening to anyone else?

i did the exact same thing, except i accidently did 0-8 but you get the point, and i did odds on the storage card and all i was left with was the evens and on the phone itself i did the evens and all i was left with was the odds.

seems to be sprints thing

I don't see how it's "Sprint's" thing, since they don't make the phone OR the operation system.

At any rate, I found it in the wild on a friend's HTC Tilt using WM 6.1...and that is AT&T.

For what it's worth, every Q9c running WM 6.1 that I've been able to get my hands on has this bug, and I've gotten in contact with someone at Microsoft who has affirmed the problem.

They recommend NOT using the file manager to delete multiple files...use your computer when the phone is connected via USB to do that. They're "unlikely" to fix it, since that would be a huge pain (agreed on that part)...
