How to real-time (active)sync TP2 with Desktop Outlook WITHOUT exchange

Just got my father one of these. I sold him on it based on the idea that he could see email on this device real-time from what was coming into his Outlook in his office. No Exchange though.

Assumed (yes, I know I shouldn't have) that Activesync would give me push-sync options from his PC to the phone, but I'm only seeing syncing occurring when the phone is plugged in via USB.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

if the office email can be accessed via POP or IMAP, you could set it up that way and have the phone pull the email at a certain interval. It wouldn't be real time, but it would be close.
    I'm just sayin'

Outlook (without exchange) is an basic e-mail reader. No exchange assumes the business has limited security protocols, etc. and obviously it cannot push/sync email via wireless active sync.

As posted above, you'd need to determine what e-mail system he's using and hopefully it supports IMAP so you can create a mailbox using Mobile Outlook for 100% sync (inbox, sent box, etc.).

If the mailbox (which outlook fetches) does not suport IMAP then he's limited to POP where he'd want to "leave messages on server" and will have duplicate email. Which is OK because the work email should be at "work" most likely.

A 3rd option would be auto-forward/BCC outlook mail to an alternate windows live hotmail or google mailbox both of which offer 100% sync with contacts & email.
